Interesting that there is still no real news about a new GM. Not even rumours about who they could be pursuing.
That could be one of two things. Either they have a candidate in mind and are ironing out the details with them, OR they have no idea who would want the job yet.
I hope that the Cats aren’t having trouble finding a potential GM. If that’s the case, they could end up settling for some retread like Marcel Desjardins. We do not want that.
Some have mentioned that Kent Austin will be a leading Candidate to be the next Head Coach of the Toronto A#&%$. I don’t really see that happening either . . .
When Lesley Stewart & Kent Austin left Hamilton in 2018, they moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where Kent Austin joined Head Coach Hugh Freeze to serve as the QB coach at Liberty U. Coach Freeze was able to parlay the turnaround of the football program at Liberty U, to become the HC at Auburn University in the SEC.
But Hugh Freeze & his staff were not able to replicate their Liberty U accomplishments on the Auburn campus. Hugh Freeze was fired a few weeks ago. Kent Austin remained on the staff in his position as the QB Coach; Hugh Freeze had served the dual role of HC & OC - I don’t know if Kent Austin has added the interim OC title to his responsibilities in the aftermath of Coach Freeze’s dismissal. Regardless, Auburn will almost certainly clean house in the Coaching offices, to remove & replace all of the coaches who were part of Hugh Freeze’s staff. This means that Kent Austin will be looking for new coaching opportunities over the weeks & months to come.
I really don’t know what his prospects might be amongst the other programs in the SEC, but Austin is an alumnus of Ole Miss University & he has coached there in the past as well.
After Coaching in front of 88,000+ fans each & every week, I cannot imagine it would be easy to land the A#&%$ coaching gig and coach in front of fewer than 12,000 fans during Toronto’s home games each week. That would be quite the letdown. I suspect that Kent Austin will land on a new Campus next year as an Offensive Consultant or possibly Offensive Co-Ordinator.
Started well with Ottawa, then it looks like he went downhill in Edmonton. The only positive thing I see is that he has previously worked with Milanovich (and hopefully it was a good relationship). Whoever they hire as GM will have to hit the ground running with 39 free agents to deal with.
I can’t tell if these additions are good or not. More deep pocketed owners means losses can be shared but I wonder if adding more business guys might mean that they might want to start making more money and trying to extract more from the fans.
IMHO
Very rich people don’t invest into the CFL for monetary gain $
They do it for the love of the game, love of the City,
There are much better and secure investments
I hope you’re right. You’re definitely right that there are better investments. But I also know that very rich people don’t get to be very rich by being ok losing lots of money.
