The Canadian Open Golf Tournament is being held at Toronto’s Oakdale Golf and Country Club designed by Stanley Thompson in 1926 . Hamiltonians are lucky to own 2 courses in the city designed by the same famous golf architect .
Here’s the problem . We have a politician, Maureen Wilson, who would essentially destroy these great courses . She wants pickle ball courts and natural areas to replace Thompson’s Gems . Her constituents need better road maintenance (potholes on Aberdeen and Charleton are third world quality) .
We expect politicians to solve problems, not create them .
I guess I’ll share a contrary opinion. I believe taking one of the two public courses and turning them into a “for everyone’s use” outdoor space would be supported and beneficial to the city.
I don’t support turning one into housing, nor do I support closing both. But I think the space could be much better used for the entire public, not just those who want to play golf.
How does a Hamilton golf topic end up in the Ticat forum? Hey moderators get this crap outta here.
It’s a Hamilton sport issue . The Tiger-Cat fans were my target audience . The people in Edmonton probably don’t give a crap .
There is nothing inappropriate with this topic. It could have been posted in The Lounge or even Other Sports categories instead but as Pat said, he thought the Hamilton focused topic wouldn’t be of interest to those outside the Hamilton forum and he’s probably right.
If you aren’t interested in the thread then don’t post in it or even read it as is always your choice. There is no reason to delete it.
Golf is for the entire public. You can choose to play or not play.
I disagree. The posting is more a political attack against the politician Maureen Wilson than it is a shout out about golf. It’s dangerously encouraging a political debate. It doesn’t belong on this designated football focused forum.
Really? I don’t consider the forum to be that rigid. If you don’t like the topic then ignore it. Post in a thread you like instead.
I don’t know this Maureen Wilson (I’m not a Hamiltonian) but it doesn’t seem to me to be an attack on her but rather the policies she supports relating to golf courses. Doesn’t seem like a particularly hot button topic to me. If you want to see some edgy topics and discussion visit the Lounge threads.
If you guys can’t discuss whether golf courses should remain or not (a common issue in most cities) without degenerating the discussion into an inappropriate political debate, then the thread will ultimately be closed as would any other thread. At least half of the topics on this forum have some political element to them.
I never asked for it to be deleted. Just get it out of the Ticat football forum and move it to the Other Sports forum where it belongs.
And I explained why it wasn’t moved. I also wasn’t the first moderator to look at it and there has been one more since and all three of us are in agreement. You can just ignore the topic. You can even dismiss it so that it doesn’t appear for you.
It is more fun apparently to keep coming back and checking LOL.
You have handled this very well…Kudos.
Makes sense to me. Lets just fill the Ticats forum with non-football related topics.
Ohhh pope, the good old days have gone from here !!
What a massive change in the last few months , and not for the good
Like the ones about corn on the cob?
Sad, ain’t it Tip!!!
Bo Levi Mitchell loves golf.
fixed that for you
by your logic, then this one should be moved too, no?
Is there anything preventing an Off-topic section in here for posts to be moderated and moved to ?
Fans would then know the topics within have absolutely nothing to do with the TCs, CFL or even football in general and thus avoided if one chooses. Complaints of off topic stuff would be rectified instantly.
Yeah, great idea.
A Ti-Cat specific sub-forum where fans can bring up non-football related topics and not get attacked for it.
We could call it “The Concourse.”
