I'm not the least bit surprised Re: Zach vs Nathan.....
The Blue Bombers are 14-2 under Collaros in 2022 and 31-4 in his starts since his arrival in October of 2019. Included in that run are the back-to-back Grey Cup championships of 2019 and 2021 and a perfect 5-0 record overall in the playoffs. Collaros has been named a CFL Top Performer three times in 2022 (Weeks 5, 8 and 14) and has been twice named a CFL Top Performer of the Month (July and September)
Why let facts get in the way of jealousy....I seam to recall the same attitude for a former Bomber's player.
fan voting is ridiculous and turns actual recognition of play onto a popularity contest. i despise any fan voting type all star or awards for any sport.
Accomplishments from previous seasons should not be factors when considering the 2022 All-Start nominations. No one denies Collaros has been amazing for Winnipeg and the best overall QB in the league over the last three seasons. But the discussion needs to be focused exclusively on what he has done this year.
When you limit the scope of the discussion to just 2022 accomplishments, Collaros is still very much at or near the top of the list. He may not lead the league in yards, completion % or QB rating, but he does lead in arguably the two most important stats: wins and TDs. And he's not far off the lead in those other categories either. The only other QB that comes close to the overall level of performance this year is Nathan Rourke.
So the question really boils down to: how do you compare one QB who has played most of the season to one that only played half? And I think that's where the interesting part of the discussion is.
Nathan Rourke only played teams under .500 to start the year.
In his first test in week 5, he was beaten down by Zach Collaros and his team. He was also pulled. Late, but nonetheless.
Rourke did beat the Stamps, but that was his only other game against a contender. 1-1.
Collaros played teams under .500 to start as well but won 3 games vs. top West teams and beat Calgary again in week 12. 4-0. A great leader wins against the best teams.
They both beat TO once early, that’s a wash.
We’ll never know what Rourke “May Have” done over the last 7 games with 4 against the top West teams. Not saying he isn’t good, we just don’t know how the rest of the season would have gone. So the QB numbers are irrelevant. Wins are wins.
I'm not advocating for stats from previous years count.....I just copied and pasted from another topic without deleting anything from the paragraph. Though if all things were even (which they are certainly not close) duration could be a tilt on the scale. No?
And here is another copy and paste. My statement on another topic.
If you only take only the sample size of the season Nathan did play, he played extremely well, butt and like mine it's a big one . No one could predict how the remainder of his season would have played out. Perhaps he would have continued status quo, or after enough film on him other teams would have figured them (BC) out? Winnipeg did 16 of 25, 278 yd 3 & 2 Hamilton did 22 - 30, 250 yd 2 & 2 and keep in mind he played Edm, bye, Tor, ott, Wpg, bye, Ham, Sask, Edm. Cgy, Sask. Not really a full test for the feats of strength.
Another way to look at things, Nathan is injured 45 - 50% of the time.
I agree that Zach has been the better QB for the whole season, but only because Rourke suffered his injury. I also wouldn't use the Top Performer stats as an indicator because Rourke wins that even with the shortened season. Roarke had been named one 5 times in the first 10 weeks. (weeks 1, 3, 8, 9, 10) and at the time of his injury, he had won the monthly one twice (June and August).
I think it is clear that had he not gotten injured it would have been alot closer.
For an All-Star consideration, we can't really look at duration beyond the 2022 season. I mean, Bo Levi Mitchell has had an amazing career but his 2022 numbers don't justify an All-Star nomination so he's not in the discussion. So even though Zach is enjoying one contiguous stream of success spanning three seasons, we can only look at the most recent portion of that stream for this particular discussion. But there are other discussions of QB greatness that would indeed factor in everything he has done.
Objectively, Zach Collaros undoubtedly had an All-Star caliber season. I don't think anyone disputes that. The problem is whether Nathan Rourke also had an All-Star caliber season. That's a much more subjective question. And if you conclude that he did, then I think you are likely looking at the discussion from a point of view that paints Rourke as the better QB.
So I think the objective discussion essentially boils down to whether nine games is enough to qualify for an All-Star caliber season.
Subjectively, though, I would rather give it to Rourke simply because he's Canadian. And because as a Rider fan, I am socially obligated to root against all things Winnipeg.
In fairness, I'm not sure he would have had the same level of success if he had stayed in Saskatchewan. Our offensive line has been so abysmal these last few years that we could have Chuck Norris back there and it wouldn't make a difference.
I'm sure there will be protests against our GM this off-season, but for a lot more reasons than just letting Zach Collaros slip through our fingers.
The problem is whether Nathan Rourke also had an All-Star caliber season. Had = pass tense, Your words not mine! His season is done as far as all star.
Devils advocate, had Zach only played 9 games then injured for 8/9 games but Nathan played all season managed FIRST place with 3 weeks left in the season........ would you be so strong in your opinion that less is more?? Zach is the ALL STAR? because he only played 50 % of the season? Would that be a reasonable argument, Nope.
If Zach had put up numbers like Nathan's in those nine games, he'd be in the conversation too.
Let's put these numbers into context. In nine games, Rourke has 3,281 yards and 25 TDs. Assuming he could have kept that up over the entire season, he was on pace to finish with 6,562 yards and 50 TDs. That would have been good for second all-time passing yards in a single season, a mere 57 yards behind Doug Flutie's record, and first all-time in TD passes in a single season.
And if he doesn't return this season, his completion percentage of 79.2% will be a league record and his average of 364.56 passing yards per game will be second all-time.
These are insane numbers. Almost as insane as Jon Cornish's 1,082 yards in his nine-game season in 2014. A year in which Cornish won CFL All-Star and Most Outstanding Canadian.
If Zach had put up numbers like Nathan's in those nine games, he'd be in the conversation too.
Point one Zach is in the conversation! Because of his actual numbers.
Aaand that's where you & I differ. Simply put, though it not a rule, IMO to rightfully win a yearly "all star" title, I believe one should play at least 2/3 of the season. And have numbers as good as the person they win against. Not numbers that extrapolated by calculation.

Assume = ass [of] u & me
You use words like Assuming, in context & that would be, on pace, but it's not reality.
With logic like that Zach will never loose another Grey Cup while playing for Winnipeg just to put things in context. Whoo hoo sixpeat here we come
Truth is currently Nathan HAS 3281 yards 25TD's
As far as 79.2% & average 364.56 are absolutely amazing and factual numbers.
As my grandfather would say.....
If the dog didn't stop to take a s#it, he would have caught the rabbit. Right.
This ALL -STAR voting is for the birds. If the quarterback only has one offensive lineman in front of him then he is going to get murdered. The same is true on defence. As they say there is no I in team so shouldn't this be an all- star team with five offensive linemen and four defensive linemen. The same for the linebackers and defensive backs and four receivers. There is plenty of talent to choose an All -Star team.
