As I’m struggling to stay awake during the Superbowl - not because of my sleeping schedule, but because of the lameness of the game - the Grey Cup game was way more exciting. I know I’m biased, and I’m asking a biased audience.
But it felt like I was being sold on a match of no-holds-barred, no mercy competition, and I tune in and it’s a game of squash.
I think the new kickoff format sucks. Such a huge disappointment. “The kickoff’s up… and here we go. What’s going to happen next?” Nothing. So Lame.
It’s like a hot girl flirting with you all night and then taking you back to her place - to show you her collection of antique postal stamps.
I don’t know if it’s the anti-American sentiment that has been stirred up by Diaper Don’s madness.
But is this Sub-par Bowl less entertaining than the Grey Cup?
Well, my team lost the GC but I’m rooting for the Eagles so the outcome is favorable.
But yeah, the GC was way better.
Was there a point in the game where you stopped paying attention because of the scoring?
I’m at a party so the game is somewhat secondary anyway
It’s a 5 possession game midway through the 4th - even CFL rules wouldn’t make it potentially competitive and worthy of viewership…
I am watching every Grey Cup games since 2015. Only the 2018 and 2019 matches were boring and one sided. Every others were exciting.
For Superbowl I don’t watch it because I find 4 downs football boring. so I can’t compare the quality of NFL finales VS CFL finales in this timeframe.
I totally enjoyed the first 50 minutes today, but then it kinda petered off as the outcome became clear.
I dont compare the 2 games, I just enjoy them for what they are. Some not so good and some great, in either game
I think you are being biased, but that is understandable. I find both brands of football exciting, but different. The NFL has a much higher skill level and has the best players in the world. The CFL is entertaining and unique in its own way.
It’s easy to say that the CFL championship game is more exciting when a Super Bowl Snoozer like today occurs, but I have followed both games closely for 50 years plus and I can say it is a toss up. There have been roughly equal amounts of thrillers and close games in both leagues over the years. There was a stretch when the NFL games weren’t as close and exciting for a decade or so, followed by the reverse. Lately both have been pretty exciting and the back to back to back Hamilton, Toronto and Montreal games were all thrillers after the 2019 snoozer. This year was close but unexciting until it became a blowout early in the 4th quarter.
The last 3 Super Bowls were barnburners as well, with last year going to OT. And who can forget Tennessee falling one and a half yards short as time expired against the Rams and Seattle throwing an interception from the one yard line with less than one minute left to blow the game?
So emphatically I don’t think the quality and closeness of the games favours either league in the long run.
Still my all-time favorite ending - even though I was pulling hard for the Titans.
2025…the year when the Super Bowl became the STUPOR BOW[e]L…
I watched until half time today. I’m not a huge fan of blowouts.
Grey Cup 2024 wasn’t too exciting but I watched until the end. It was fairly low scoring based on memory until the bad turnovers leading to Toronto winning. I would describe the Grey Cup in BC Place as “intense” but admittedly had some humour with the streaker.
I haven’t tuned in a Stupor Bowl in a couple of decades now, but I don’t ever remember any SB being nearly as entertaining as the dullest Grey Cup I’ve Watched.
I dont know that I have ever watched a stupor bowl
One year ago! the Super Bowl went into OT a great game. If you watched any of the NFL playoff games this year they were more entertaining than any of the CFL playoff games.
But the Super Bowl was terrible this year and I switched off at half time, even the half time show was horrible.
Stop trying to compare with the GC
Gotta disagree with this, the Eagles were obviously dominating throughout the game. Their defense owned KC from the start while the Eagle’s offensive game plan had KC on their heels. KC also dominated the LoS on both sides of the ball.
I did not find the game boring at all.
I know I’m in a tiny minority, but I prefer watching a good defence as opposed to watching a high-powered offence.
And that was a stellar defensive performance by Philadelphia. So I enjoyed it.
I agree
but
I walked out shortly after KC broke the shutout late in the 3rd qtr
Statement game from PHI
Don’t know what I wanted more
KC to lose
or
PHI to win
I probably wasn’t clear enough, but I was referring to this year’s Grey Cup. Far from a classic. The teams bumbled around with some poor play until the 4th quarter and then it was over almost instantly. It became turn off material then.
No - watched it all.
It was far from a showcase game for tge NFL Championship. You cannot expect a super exciting game every year.
Hope next year will not be such a one sided afair.
