“Burn it to the Ground” That song gets me pretty jacked up for doing whiskey shots and watching Hockey or Football. If Nickelback does play the half-time show, I say they open with that.
They formed in Alberta but bacame famous, and are based out of Vancouver.
Half time show needs to be a canadian band, period. Maybe an all star ensemble. Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, KD Lange, and a few others doing each others songs.
Nickelback is from Hanna, AB, which is NE of Calgary, near Drumheller.
As much as people love to hate on Nickelback, there's no denying they are one of the most successful bands in the world over the last decade. It's music isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I wouldn't mind seeing them at the G.C.
And for those who don't care about half time shows, they are important for TV/casual viewers.
Perhaps the recently reunited Randy Bachman-Fred Turner maybe in the mix for the half time show. I looked them up and are on tour until the end of August and maybe more dates to follow. Who knows, just thought I’d put my two cents worth in.
If you really want something different, why not do a call for some local bands play at halftime, it would be a great way to showcase local talent, wether it be rock, pop, country...
good call.
i would really like to see next years ‘rona canada-day kickoff’ to feature a band.
i always envision the season opening in montreal with sam roberts playing the halftime show or before the kickoff…would be a great way to start the season.
Discovered this when the Black Eyed Peas played the Grey Cup, many spouses and partners that never come out to my Cup party came that year just to watch them.
Saw them last month, great choice for halftime show. Blue Rodeo was good but doens’t have the hi energy tempo that I think should be at the half time show.
Any of those three would put on a spectacular show for 1/100th of what the big names would get. We are always talking about promoting the CFL here and abroad. What a better way to walk the talk than to use the half-time show to promote up and coming Canaian talent. Put the extra money toward a good cause or lower ticket prices.
