The only thing I did not enjoy about this year’s Cup was the half time show. Jonas Bros were OK I suppose, but don’t you guys have more than your share of talent in Canada? I realize a lot of the Canadian artists and groups I admire are either up there in years, or have passed away, but still! Are BTO and Loverboy still around?
My favorite (Sorry for the US spelling!) was the Shania Twain show from Ottawa a few years ago, and that young woman singer from Toronto that sang in Edmonton. Can’t remember her name.
US fan from New Mexico, must be at least six of us down here.
Bill Shantner is a singer as I recall.
So in other words you have as many CFL fans down in New Mexico as Toronto has Argo fans then ? I was at the Cup and the weekend festivities and honestly all 5 Argo fans I saw there were absolutely miserable looking .
Great cover of Lucy in the Sky. One for the ages.
Some things never change. I went to U of T years ago when they played in Exhibition Stadium. Never a problem getting tickets.
They have Canadian singers that the TV audience didn’t see during Grey Cup week. Perhaps the CFL should have promoted it more.
IMO a Canadian tradition like the Grey Cup should only have Canadian talent at half time.
Alicia Carta was the artist I believe back in 2018.
I think you mean Alicia Cara
That’s right that’s what I meant.
Damn spell check
her name is Alessia Cara.
It’s about the TV ratings and they are trying to get the artists that are going to attract people to the TV.
Are people going to tune in because they heard a Canadian is going to be singing or are they going to tune in because it’s an artist they want to see?
The Lions sold 50,000 tickets for their home opener because they had a pre-game concert with 50 cent, they probably would’ve had a good TV audience too if they had televised it.
The only Canadians that are going to draw a TV audience for the half time show would be Drake or the Wkend
You have a good point. I guess Diana Krall and Emilie-Claire Barlow, talented as they are, wouldn’t fill an arena. Besides, they appeal to a slightly different demographic. Thanks for reminding me about Ms. Cara. Can’t believe that was that many years ago.
I frankly don’t get the insecurity about who performs based on their nationality of origin. Green Day last year was generally considered the best act to perform in recent memory and they aren’t Canadian. Just like the players in the game, I want to see the best available. Otherwise I perceive it as affirmative action, which I don’t believe should have a place in top level professional sports. Merit only please.
I didn’t hear US fans of the NFL complain after Super Bowl performances over the years by British acts Phil Collins, Coldplay, The Who, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones, Irish band U-2 and Canadians The Weeknd and The Blues Brothers (half).
