Grey Cup 2016- Toronto, 2017- Ottawa

Plus they host the GC on a regular basis. Winning it in 2012 did zero to garner new fans. There is more than enough exposure if people want it. TSN is in every home and on basic cable.

Postmedia is US owned now and run by Paul Godfrey - known cfl enemy

New Mosiac Stadium in Regina in 2018 is my guess.

A little over half the shares of Postmedia are owned by US hedge fund firms but they are still a publicly traded company on the TSX that owns numerous Canadian media assets. So, given all the other companies I listed are very, very Canadian, your claim that “our media is American owned/run” is simply not true. And your other claim is absurd.

Which claim is that?

Postmedia is majority owned by the US company.
They own many many many print publications. Especially now, since buying many Quebecor print sources.
I’d be curious to compare how many print outlets , own in total compared to all others.
They own 52 ‘newspapers’
4 magazines
9 news websites

That is a lot American media pretending to be Canadian.

In comparison, Quebecor owns 3 newspapers, all French. 1 new website and 2 tv channels, Both French.

Torstar only owns 4 daily newspapers.
Roger doesn't own any newspapers.
Bell owns a minority in the globe and mail - 1 newspaper

Correction; the owners of the globe and mail own a minority stake in bell.

TSN is Not on basic cable for Rogers customers. Sportsnet is.

Your claim that, “Canadian media pretty much ignores all things Canadian except to bash it…” Your opinion perhaps but hardly a fact in any way, shape or form.

You’re focusing a lot on the newspaper business, a dying medium, and an American Hedge (that bought in largely waiting for the eventual and unavoidable collapse of the company) fund that owns slightly more than half of the shares to support your claim that there’s undue American influence on our media and thus the bias. Your opinion again, and you’re entitled to it, but a claim that has zero basis in fact especially when you consider all the other heavily Canadian owned and managed media that I listed that you continue to ignore.

What gets me about Sportsnet is they almost always have to undermine the CFL... Just with statements like "... the Grey Cup, which can generate upwards of $4 million in profit for the host club depending on the gate and amount of government money received to host the festival surrounding each championship week. " ... As if the CFL/Grey Cup needs government handouts to make money.

Or "the event has lost some of its lustre recently. The game did not sell out in Vancouver last year and television viewership dipped for the Calgary-Hamilton game. In Winnipeg, organizers announced that about a third of the tickets still remain for this November's championship -- which will have a total attendance figure of under 40,000." ... While not pointing out the massive tv viewership, and that there were 52000 fans paying $300 a ticket. Simply not recognizing it is the single most watched sporting event in the country. Yea viewership / attendance varies from year to year, just like every other sport I the world.

It's just these simple disrespectful digs to the CFL that pis**es me off with Sportsnet.

The Canadian media you mention is mostly tv and Radio which airs mostly American content promoting American interests.

Rewarding Failure in Toronto :thdn: :thdn:

What Grey Cups in Toronto have failed?

I know that the last Grey Cup in Hamilton lost money.

Rewarding Failure means a team that has less than 5000 season tickets holders in a City with almost 4 million people ! that doesn’t support CFL Football ! gets rewarded with a Grey Cup ! :thdn: :thdn:

You didn’t answer the question.

Where are you getting your Argonauts Season Tickets numbers from?

And once again it’s been reported that the new owners of the Argonauts get 2 or 3 Grey Cups in the next 10 years as a condition of the sale.

As to Grey Cups in Hamilton, the stadium is in a terrible neighborhood and there is a lack of hotel rooms.

You could look at the Grey Cup, not as a “reward” (they do charge a lot for tickets), but as a showcase. And the Toronto market is where the league most needs to showcase its product to potential customers, to try to get all those GTAers who sit at home and watch on TSN to get their butts into the stadium for the live experience.

Not a Chance as CBC reported yesterday it would be Fort Mac. And it should as they edge out Halifax as new Franchise
148 to 3 votes. Well we can’t stop progressssss!!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Cat Fan, grasping at straws doesn’t cut man!

You gotta be kidding. Please explain to me how “The Big Bang Theory” and Lady Gag bash everything Canadian…that was your original claim. And you’re (conveniently) ignoring all the broadcast news programs which do anything but ignore “all things Canadian”.

Not sure why everyone thinks the Grey Cup will be at the dome. There is a very good chance it will be played at expanded BMO field. Expanded to 42,000 for the GC. They have drawings made up already on the configuration of BMO. Won’t have to pay Rogers, the over 1.5 million in rent or fee concessions. They would only have to pay the city next to nothing, Rogers would get a very small rent cheque, for their involvement as part of MLSE running BMO.
