I started out to talk about a few teams only and then expanded and didn’t even realize I missed Saskatchewan.
I think they did pretty well. Better than most and behind only Edmonton and Hamilton so far as far as free agency is concerned.
That isn’t an assessment of their overall team which I’m not even attempting to make and it’s still way too early in my opinion to make that type of assessment.
But I don’t think Rider fans have any reason to be disappointed so far.
This was one of my favourite moves by Hervey - - Signing Mark Kilam as Head Coach! He is a good motivator, and players really respond to his style of teaching, a player’s coach. It would be nice to see both the Stamps and Elks ‘rise’ out of the West Division basement.
Have to believe DD Dickenson driving Kilam to the edge of town, ie. firing him was the best thing that ever happened to long-hair Mark.
He’ll flourish in Edmonton. Might have the odd clash with the GM, but who doesn’t?
Right now, I’d have the Elks as slight favorites to take the CFL duke in 2025. Perhaps co-favorites with Montreal. Ryan Dinwiddie will have to work a veritable Houdini act in Toronto to repeat as champions. Here’s some early odds based only partly on the draft rankings:
Edmonton
1A. Montreal
Hamilton (possible weakness at QB)
Sask’n
BC
Hamilton
Winnipeg (based on a strong 2nd half of season after being off-season strip-mined)
Ottawa
Calgary (but they’ll challenge Winnipeg for final playoff spot in west)
The obvious - Edmonton is rising up. Winnipeg struggling to avoid being flushed down the drain.
New member from Arizona I love the CFL been watching for about 10 years. I was at the Super Bowl and have you ever felt you got robbed. Many of us were so bored we bet on drunk fans passing out. All the hype for a couple of weeks only to be labeled as a worthless game. Any love the CFL
Welcome to the forum. You will find many here who love the CFL as well and even some who love the NFL or college/university football and the odd UFL fan. All are welcome.
The West will be tough & other than the Stamps, hard to handicap. But IMO the Riders are better than last year & were a freak gale away from 1st. At this moment, they may be the favourite to take the West. I DO think they need another veteran body in the middle for depth behind their DT’s.
Still, a lot of players available, draft to come, so too early to tell.
Not only did the riders retain all of their star players they also retained their core receivers. Then they upgraded the QB lineup, the Oline, the Dline and the secondary. This was an A+ effort by the team.
IMO both BC and Calgary are going to be hard to judge until we get into the season.
Lots of changes on both teams both player and coach wise. Plus there is the new HC thing in BC, where they will lose a game or two with the new head coach. Seen it too many times to say it won’t happen…
