Got a CFL Question?

A relative of the hamburgler?

The NFL is on local ota stations. More profitable for Bell Media.

The structure of the deal is very different. Plus, with the NFL, Bell has no production costs, so without that overhead, its easier to turn a profit.

OTA stations have only one revenue stream… advertising. TSN has that income plus subscription fees. Diluting the product to alternate broadcasters devalues their subscriptions, thus reducing their income potential.

The NFL gains new fans from the younger generation thanks to Bell media ota telecasts. Just like back in the 60’s when CFL games were on CTV and CBC. The CFL needs more exposure to the younger generation.

They certainly won’t get that on the Seniors’ Network (cbc). The TSN app is more likely to get traction with the yung’uns.

What’s the most “Canadian” play that you’ve ever seen in the CFL?

For me, it’s this.

Cool video👍

I’ve seen this play many times on this forum.

The problem with the play is that the Toronto player that kicked the missed field goal out initially was clearly OB and then came back in and kicked the ball back. Same result in that it was a Montreal win but the play should have been flagged for illegal participation at which point the game was already over.

I was wondering about the out of bounds thing. I figured that grey strip was the out of bounds area in the back of the end zone and he certainly looked like he stepped back onto the grey.
When was this game played? I’d like to YouTube it.

I’m not sure but maybe someone else can tell you or google can.

The date is in the title of the video

The rule at the time stated that if a player went out of bounds as a result of contact with another player he could re-enter the field of play and participate. This play resulted in an amendment to the rule which now stipulates that it has to be contact with an opponent.

Thanks Brutus.
Watching the video as is, the date doesn’t show up on my screen. But by enlarging the image I can see the date.

Paid tv subscriptions are projected to drop to 50% of Canadian households. High cost of living? So the younger generation will follow the NFL on free Bell media ota chsnnels. The CFL needs those younger fans

The subscriptions will drop in favour of streaming platforms, not ota networks. CBC and CTV viewership will fall further, not rise, especially amoung the younger generations. I stand by my earlier statement.

I will second that. I haven’t watched CTV for about 10 years now and CBC I stream for free on CBC Gem for kids shows without commercials.

Joining CFL to a streaming service like DAZN or Amazon Prime is likely the future.

NEW Question…

A ball that is punted and makes contact with the crossbar or uprights or any other part of the apparatus ( not the flags on top) is considered a dead ball.

What happens if a player tries to kick the ball OUT of the end zone to save a single but it hits the crossbar or uprights or any part of the apparatus?

I believe that it would have to be ruled as a dead ball and the offence would be awarded a single point.

That makes good sense.:+1:
