Golf Season 2025

And I’m saying that similar conditions have existed some years in the spring as well. I am sure you can make arguments for all kinds of different reasons that there should be asterisks for various wins. The most obvious one is an asterisk for Tiger wins as a result of obvious rampant PED use, but that wouldn’t be officially recognized just as an asterisk for DJ wouldn’t be.

But similar conditions haven’t existed. Augusta National literally said before the event that scoring would be down and they couldn’t prepare the course the way they wanted to because of the change of season. It was basically played in the winter.

It can’t be compared to speculation of PEDs never proven.

The playing field was fair, just easier. Which is why nobody questions the win, just the score.

We will agree to disagree on the Masters.

As to PED’s not proven, that is the way it is much of the time. No proof against Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens or Sammy Sosa either yet the lack of proof has kept them out of the HOF.

I won’t re-hash the whole discussion, but suffice it to say that the impossible growth in physique, frequent documented visits from the drug doctor and classic long term PED effects are plenty of evidence for most informed on the effects of PED’s and what they do to a body long term. He may even have been caught by testing, but the secretive policy of the PGA prevents us from knowing.

Until I saw this headline I wasn’t even aware that Mack Hughes hadn’t made it into what I thought was the only PGA tournament of the week that has 4 Canadians in it. Apparently he didn’t make it into the “signature” event. I don’t know and can’t keep track of all the different tournaments and limited PGA Tour fields. In any event Mack is leading the tournament he is playing in- Myrtle Beach…far away in time…

He’s only 2 back going into the final round but Sportscentre, the 2:00 am show from last night, didn’t even show the highlights from yesterday’s round of the Myrtle, just the the “signature” Truist Championship.

Take the positives from this playoff loss MacKenzie, you got game, just need to tighten up on those drives I’d say.

Sucks to lose on a chip in but sudden death is just that

No one, and I repeat no one in the golf media expects a Canadian to win this particular U.S. Open. However, when Canadians are written off - that is when we rise.
If any of the group of 5 is gonna take home the duke - I’d say its either Pendrith or Taylor. Both can play the long game but more importantly, both guys have even demeanour. Hughes and Conners can self-implode at the turn of a hat despite having better low scoring potential than the others. How did Hadwin even qualify for this event? Well, at least he gets to play 2 rounds of FREE GOLF at a pretty decent golf course.
This one will come down to Scottie, Rory, Shambles, X-Man and some rabbit field player who decides to heat up this week. Don’t rule out Justin Thomas - he’s been rounding into form. Rule out Spieth - too hot-headed for a U.S. Open. If any of the leaders falter Aberg will smell blood and make his play.

Another storyline for the PGA as Spieth seeks the Grand Slam. Second major in a row this is possible. I don’t expect him to get it and would be surprised if he actually won another major ever.

Maybe some hope for the Ryder Cup yet. Koepka and Dechambeau are being kept in the Ryder Cup loop. Duh! So are Hatton and Rahm, also duh! Dechambeau and Hatton currently in qualifying position (top 6) on points, quite a feat for a LIV golfer that must qualify based on his showing in 4 tournaments a year. It would be a large step forward if these 4 LIV golfers at a minimum played in the Ryder Cup. I also think it puts pressure on the nimrods negotiating a deal to get one done quickly. Patrick Reed and presumably Sergio Garcia might also merit some consideration.

We’re underway. Hopefully this should track all scores and Canadian scores.

Time to play Canadian S-Kickers Golf. Predict the first rd. score for all 5 canucks entered into the U.S. Open this week in North Carolina.

  • Hadwin 74/75
  • Hughes 73/74
  • Conners 72/73
  • Pendrith 71/72
  • Taylor 70/71
No Canadians will blow themselves out of the cut-line on Day 1. Friday - a different story will unfold. I suspect perhaps only 1 Canuck will proceed to weekend golf.

Round 2 is in the books. I can’t remember the last time so many top players and favourites missed the cut. Full list in the link below. Lots of no names high up the leaderboard. Only 4 of the top 10 made the cut. McIlroy and Schauffele barely snuck in. Spieth wont be getting the career grand slam this year.

The lead is Jhonathan Vegas at -8 after doubling his last hole. Pendrith at -3 and Conners at -1 are the two Canadians who made the cut. Taylor, Hadwin and Hughes all cut.
