La signature de Trestman l'an dernier est arrivée en pleine course au record pour les Alouettes. Trestman ne voulait pas être un sujet de distraction pour ses joueurs à ce moment-là.
Pour Popp, ça n'aurait pas le même impact médiatique, et à ce temps-ci de l'année, la distraction ne durerait pas longtemps, si distraction il y avait.
On espère toujours, mais comme l'a dit CFLMan, c'est mieux d'attndre avant de fêter.

Ça ne veut pas dire que ce n'est pas vraie, car j'avais entendu une conversation par hasard entre membres de l'organisations des Alouettes en juin. Je me suis dit peut-être c'était pour partir des rumeurs, pour mettre plus de pression sur l'organisation des Alouettes? J'en ai jamais mentionné dans mes articles de peur de me tromper. C'est pour cela qu'il est préférable d'attendre la confirmation, il se peut que les négosiations tournent mal à la dernière minute.
Bernard Cyr at Rue Frontenac has written that Popp told him at the Matte press conference that he is very close to signing, but that there are some details not finalized. Cyr says an announcement could come next week before the home opener.
Herb at The Gazette had previously mentioned that Popps "agent" is his sister Karen Popp, and if you google her you see she is a prominent Washington attorney who has done work for the Clintons. Maybe thats where the Popp to the Redskins rumours might have started.
Maybe the holdup in the contract is the clause that states Popp has to start talking to Herb!
Hopefully Cyr is correct and the announcement is made next week. This organization would be nothing, would not even likely exist today, if not for Jim Popp's tireless scouting, drafting, and building.
