GM/front office changes

During last night's telecast, Rod Black said (I'm paraphrasing) "Desjardins or whoever is running the Cats next year has a lot of work to do."

Steve Milton's column yesterday also touched on this issue:

"...nobody is really certain which parts of the front office and coaching roster will be retained. So for whom, exactly, is a player auditioning?"

"It's interesting, and highly informative, to note that the auditions which had been proceeding at a slow, but steady, pace of one or two per week since Labour Day have dwindled down to virtually none.

That could indicate several things, ranging from a potential change in the GM/player personnel department ..."

Are these guys simply speculating, or (as I'm inclined to think) they've heard things from people in the know that certain quarters are not happy at the regression of the football operations (read: not happy with Desjardins)?

A Study In Contrasts

If Ticats only had what the Lions possess in spades -- continuity.

As quoted above

"...nobody is really certain

which parts of the front office
and coaching roster will be retained.

So for whom, exactly, is a player auditioning?"

"It's interesting, and highly informative,
to note that the auditions which

had been proceeding at a slow,
but steady, pace of one or two
per week since Labour Day

have dwindled down to virtually none.

That could indicate several things,
ranging from a potential change
in the GM/player personnel department ..."

To continue Steve's sentence, MTL_NDG

to an unstated determination to heavily invest
in proven free agents during the off-season.

This would be a fastest way to
achieve a .500 or better record.

IMO, it is a mandatory step.

Everywhere in the football organization,
and in almost every area on the field itself,

the Cats have to consider
and balance opposing factors.

The GM/player personnel department
is the most important concern, IMO.

In each situation, are the errors and omissions
of this year part of a learning curve,

which could arc into valued experience?

Or do they indicate that the individuals involved
are simply not good enough, and won't ever be?

How much do they change in the interest of raising the bar?

How much do they retain in the interest of B.C.-like continuity?

Marcel has produced pathetic results. 2 wins!

Even once angry diehard fans have become apathetic.

Unacceptable.

Hand Dan Rambo the football operations reins.

Marcel has a 5 year contract.

Assign him the day-to-day administrative
responsibilities he had with Montreal.

'salary cap related matters, team travel,
player related administrative issues
(insurance, pension, government documents)

and office administration.

He also communicated regularly with the CFL office,
other CFL teams, the CFLPA and player agents.

P.S.

Why not ask him to take a pay cut, too?

40% would be a good starting point.

Golf clap.

Ron, you deserve a pat on the back for that one.
