Globe Reporter shows Disregard for CFL

I like the use of the word "bungle", capitalized.

Why are you guys dragging me into this?.. Waaaa Waaaaaa I want a mod... Waaa

I should have chose a different word. I should have wrote " Major Blunder At …"

Sorry Bungle. Using you site name was not my intent.

Maybe Rogers agreed to something behind close doors to make the Bell/LT and BMO thing happen and in return Bell/LT had to allow the Babcock signing on the same day. Who knows. And if that's the case, not a problem at all, well not a problem as it turned out anyways, the final result is new big-time ownership for the Argos and a football stadium to play in. It's like your wedding day, the real work is ahead after the wedding day.

The reporter was between a rock and a hard place...

He knows if he asks about the Babcock signing, he will be told this is an Argo press conference. If he doesn't, his boss gives him hell for not asking about the BIG story of the day. He couldn't win.

Also it had Leaf fans who are not Argo fans and don't read anything about the Argos, reading media, at least some, that was mentioning both so in a way it was free media FOR the Argos. Who knows, some might become Argo fans as a result.

Well this site would be no fun if everyone always agreed on everything.

Having said that, Kevin and Earl , with respect I will disagree. This was an Argos moment. Any mention of the Leafs was just not appropriate IMO. All hidden agendas or motives aside.

There will be plenty of coverage on the LAFS, without stealing valuable time from the Argos.
Props to the guys at the conference for not engaging.

They have to keep hockey relevant...

not sure if I should create a new topic for this little tidbit, but I think not.

on the topic of reportercfl, there is on cfl.ca an article about Mitchell's brother, a receiver, joining the Stamps, and they say "...this will be a new thing in the cfl...

uh no remember pair of guys named Flutie

wouldn't surprise me if there has been others as well.

The guy who wrote this article must be about 25-30, or less

What a jerk but when toronto pulls an ottawa or hamilton here sellin out bmo hes gonna look stupid.

Just one person, one person that doesnt represent at least any of the 3 million torontonians that watched grey cup 100

And I certainly didn’t mean to imply that you were trying to put him down. I thought it was done as a friendly jab.

Loved Bungle response nonetheless. Cracked me up.

I agree but, again, I think he was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

at which point you go with integrity. He didn’t.

I'm not all that surprised somebody asked to be honest and I doubt his editor is in any way pissed that he did. Reporters aren't sales people for the CFL or whatever press conference they happen to be attending at the time. They aren't there to be cheerleaders for the CFL or the Argos. They are there covering a sports news story. If a bigger sports news story (one of the biggest in the last 20 years in Toronto by some accounts) breaks while covering the other story - and some of the major players with that bigger story are sitting in front of you at that time - you ask about it! They can certainly give you a brush off and say let's talk about it later - BUT YOU ASK!

As I mentioned somewhere else the internet and social media were going wild with the Babcock story, MLSE principals were sitting right there in front of a whack of the Toronto sports media. Their reaction was not at all one of being upset that they were asked. Leiweke laughed and said 'Who?', and Tanenbaum made a point of answering the question in a way by saying they do have an announcement to make later instead of just ignoring it.

You know every sports editor sitting back in their newsroom was probably texting their reporters saying 'Ask about Babcock - is it true?' And sure enough in the scrums after the live press conference right on the field at BMO many were dominated by reporters asking questions of people like Leiweke about Babcock - because those replies were what their sports editors were wanting ASAP so they could get those remarks on to their respective websites.

screw the sports editors

Best way to shut them up is do like they did in Montreal. Fill BMO and once the team is popular again. They will come tongue on ball Trying to get in there. I hope the Argos are taking names...

At which point you remember you have bills to pay, mouths to feed, kids to put thru university and go with what your boss would want you to do.

So what you’re basically saying is that you better chew this gum if you want to keep your job. Who the Hell reads the Globe and Mail sports section anyway ?..answer…NOBODY !!!

Shows how desperate Toronto is for the Leafs though to keep them at the top of the sports rung in Toronto. Kinda funny actually. Argos under new ownership like what they are going to have and in a football first stadium is way more newsworthy to me than a hockey coach but hey, that's just me. Hockey ain't that big to me. Especially the Leafs. I can't believe they are paying a hockey coach that much money. Weird but it is what it is.

And yes, the Globe is irrelevant as a newspaper anyways. Nobody cares what's in most newspapers, you can get all your news without newspapers nowadays.

In today’s job market, most people will sell you, me, their integrity and their soul down the river for a job and a regular paycheck. My guess, this reporter is no different.

Do I wish he’d stuck to the Argos? Of course.

Will I fault him for doing what his boss would want him to do? No.
