Game number 4-Next Friday at Ottawa

In order to win more regularly, the Alouettes will have to put more emphasis on their running game; they don't win often when they have more passes than runs.

Unlike Mike Reilly, or Bo Levi Mitchell or Trevor Harris, Vernon Adams Jr. will not beat other teams with his arm; I am not saying that he cannot ever help the Alouettes win with his passing game, I am saying that it won't be done regularly.

So far, the Alouettes have played 3 games and their record is 1-2.

--In game 1, they passed 21 times-8 incomplete-and ran 29 times. They won 30-13.

-In game 2, they passed 42 times-22 incomplete-and ran 24 times. They lost 22-28.

-In game 3, they passed 34 times-16 incomplete- and ran 18 times. They lost 10-27.

For next Friday's game in Ottawa, I just hope that they will run more often than they will pass; if more emphasis on running game, I do think that they will have a better chance of winning.

I don't know if there were injuries in last night game that will force some changes; assuming that all players are OK, here are some changes that I HOPE will occur:

-Add A RB Cameron Artis-Payne to the active roster and transfer A LB Tre Watson to 1 game injured list. In some instances, I would have both Stanback and Artis-Payne in the backfield; Stanback is a lousy receiver coming out of the backfield; in past 3 games, he was thrown the ball 7 times and caught only 1.-last night for 2 yards-. Stanback is, I think, over evaluated.

-Add A DE Jamal Davis II to the active roster and exclude either A DT Woody Baron-2 defensive tackles and 1 sack after 3 games-, or A DT Almondo Sewell -3 defensive tackles and 1sack after 3 games-.

-Add A WR Dante Absher to the active roster and exclude Quan Bray.-15 passes thrown to him after 3 games and only 7 caught, for a mere 80 yards-.

-Since I would add an A DE and exclude an A DT and since I would add an A RB, I would add/dress N DT Cameron Lawson-healthy scratch for first 3 games- and designate N RB Jeshrun Antwi as healthy scratch.

Just anxious to see if changes will occur for next Friday's game; after this game, the Alouettes will have a break and their next game would be September 18,2021, against the BC Lions. They can't afford to be 1-3; if so, drastic changes could occur and their will be close scrutiny to the NFL cuts of next Tuesday. NFL teams down from 80 players to 53 and then they could add as much as 16 players to practice rosters. Less players available than in previous years, but there will still be some good ones available.

I would like to see Artis-Payne at RB to see if the ground game issues are with Stanback or the o-line.

As for other changes, we can debate them, but there is never going to be perfect performances from every player every game. We have to assume the coaches will play the players they feel give them the best chance to win.

It will all come down to Adams, his decision making and ability to throw open receivers by placing the ball accurately.

Something isn't right with the Als running game. They tried to run the football against Hamilton, they could barely average 3 yards at the half.

According to first injury report along with RDS and Herb, a few players are injured. Injuries to knees for Cranston, Tony Washington and Ahmad Thomas.

Eric Leblanc of RDS wrote that there could be a few changes, including:
-WR Dante Absher replacing WR Quan Bray.
-MLB Tre Watson replacing Ahmad Thomas.
-De Jamall Davis II could play. I presume that he could replace Antonio Simmons who was limited at today's practice.
-RB Jeshrun Antwi could play more. Coming out of the backfield catching passes.
-If Tony Washington does not play, he will definitely be replaced by Chris Schleuger.

OR ... the scheme ... Stanback does not seem to often get the same holes that some other RBs around the league exploit ... Jones needs to figure out why

Based on what he has seen in practice, Herb Zurkowsky believes Marc-Antoine Dequoy will start at Safety.

Ty Cranston has been ill, so that is why Dequoy has been the Safety at practice. Who plays there will probably be a gametime decision.

Khari Jones said that Quan Bray is fine, but they want to take a look at Dante Absher.

Jones was asked yesterday about the lack of an effective running game from William Stanback. He essentially said pointed to scheme and play calling: Ti-Cat front 7 overpowering the Als 5 OL+FB, not running motion or giving any reason for the defense to consider other options, and the continued calling of run plays that were not working.

I would not be surprised if the Als starting using the threat of jet sweep so defenses cannot solely focus on Stanback; perhaps using Mario Alford in that role.

N FB Regis Cibasu has been released from active roster and added to practice rosters.e. free agent.

N LB Brian Harelimana has been transferred from practice roster to active roster. Harelimana can play MLB. These moves could mean:

-No further changes. A National replacing a National.
-A MLB Ahmad Thomas transferred from active roster to injured, thus creating a position for 1 American on active roster. Options: Addition of A RB Cameron Artis-Payne or addition of A WR Dante Absher or addition of A DE Jamal Davis II. Other options, I presume.

Richard

Herb Zurkowsky wrote today that: "it also appears Tre Watson will start at middle linebacker and Chris Schleuger at offensive tackkle due to injuries."

As many had speculated, Ahmad Thomas didn't last very long and was for the most part invisible.

Schleuger at RT is another.

C'est confirmé dans La Paresse.

Un premier départ pour Marc-Antoine Dequoy

His play on Special team has been exceptional. Let's hope it carries over. Funny how al the "suspects" developed "knee injuries".

I wonder if Dequoy is playing because the coaches think he is better than Cranston, or if they want to play an american elsewhere.

If you knew your team, you would know that Cranston is Canadian. So your question is moot.

You could have pointed out that Cranston is Canadian without being an ass about it. People forget things. Has nothing to do with how well Johnny knows the team.

Johnny prefers "direct" comments.

I made a mistake. You don't have to be a jerk about it. But, thanks for the direct comment.
