so how could they put a retractable roof on that place?...
the current roof just comes right off?
the retractable roof would be made of what?

I would say they could make a retractable roof like the one at Skydome(oops Rogers Centre  ), I think that would be the way to go at BC Place.
is that possible?..to add a metal retractable roof to an already existing building?
it might take a bit of work, but Im guessing to would be possible...
wouldnt that be ALOT more expensive than simply replacing the current roof with a similar roof?
Yeah, I guess that would be more expensive, but considering that governments and coporations spend huge amounts of money on things that are unnecessary, its not out of the realm of possibility...
I can't give you concrete answers there drummin...(Pardon the pun) The retractable thing has been wishful thinking out loud. The roof needs replacing....what with??? Nobody is certain
sounds like BC could be renovated and fix, unlike the Big O, but the question is, does the city or the fans want to?
Money is always an issue, but isn’t the main one.
hopefully with the Olympics coming, the City will make the renovations to the stadium that all of you talk about.
BC Place Rocks.....FYI......the concrete structure was not built to hold the wait of a RETRACTABLE roof....goto the BC Place stadium Website FAQs.................should not be torn down................just put some AC in the building..........that place is the house of pain baby.........best place to watch a football game across canada........grey cup 2005.....lions didn't make it but I went anyway and I LOVED EVERY (edit - watch language) MINUTE............WHAT PLACE IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOO HOO ITS GETS HOT...........TELL me WHO THE (edit - watch language)IN THE CITY OF VANCOUVER IS EVER GONNA WATCH A GAME IN THE POURING RAIN IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER????????????????THE DOME IS WARM BABY....................AND I BET EVERY PLAYER ACROSS THE LEAGUE LOVES IT COME PLAYOFF TIME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO PLAY OUTSIDE IN THE CANADIAN WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!
The half time show could have been incredible at last year's grey cup :? , but no one could understand it!
No way is the stadium designed to accept a retractable roof! Anyone that thinks there is a viable way to retrofit the stadium to accept a roof has not clue about engineering and construction. Now it should be possible to replace the existing roof with a similar one if that is necessary.
And that would be good enough. Now if only people would stop whining about a problem that doesn’t exist. BC PLace is a great place to watch a football game and it’s great having that roof on so we don’t have soaker games like last week in Calgary. When I go to the game I go to watch FOOTBALL not the weather. Nor worry about the name on the sign outside.

Who watches half time shows???
It’s only a rumour and if it was true , what a stupid idea. Build a huge building like that and rip it down 25 years later
25 to 30 years seems to be about the life expectancy of a sporting stadium in North America these days. I’ve lost track of the number of stadiums that have been demolished over the last few years.

Are you kidding…That was Rap Crap…No one would understand it no matter where it was performed!
If they are going to put a wack of money into it for the Olympics then I do not see them knocking it down and building another.
I agree...It wouldn't make sense....Just another one of Kanga's "Out in Left Field" posts.
IMO being a Rider fan :rockin: would hate to see BC Place torn down :o for any reason other than it being unsafe is it on safe? :o

There is nothing wrong with it structurally . And it’s not dumpy either , it’s in great shape. Maybe the roof is aging and needs to be replaced with somthing similar, people should really just go in there and watch a game before worrying about it.
Is it not the second newest stadium in the league after Toronto??? Why don’t we talk about tearing down some of the much older ones instead???
I made it out to Vancouver for Grey Cup last year from Hamilton and while the stadium lacks a bit of character, it certainly makes up for it in comfort. Nice place, great shape, and the fans there were great. I too heard that it would be torn down after the Olympics, but that was from some guy outside the 'Spirit of Edmonton' suite. He was, by the way, completely looped. :o
