Free automobile

Bring back free auto’s for player of the game and mvp. Back in the day players would get trinkets, for grey cup game. Vacations , etc…. I’m sure they would even take a money prize, Come on cfl. Try to make it better for the players.

Didn’t Flutie give Massotti his MVP pickup in 96 or 97?

Its cute but I think the marketers at the league and TSN want to avoid further stigmatizing the players for being so poor they need to win free cars.

It was done by the automakers as marketing. Not because they thought the players were poor. Are you ok by the way?

Am I coming off as sick?

No, just worried that you think players are poor and require charity to live😆

Nah I don’t think that, but I could see how giving players “everyman” prizes could take the shine off their otherwise exceptional abilities from.a marketing / branding point of view.

I dunno maybe they do this in the big major leagues too? I don’t follow other sports so closely.

Well they are not getting free running shoes in the NBA because they can’t afford them.

I remember in 2006, when Brent Johnson won CBC, Walby’s Warrior of the Year, he was given a truck… as a rental for a year  . (I also used to think Brent was a pretty big guy, until I saw him beside Walby  .)

I was watching an 80s Lions game on YT, and the player of game won a boombox… by Candle, Citizen, or some other junkname brand  . I think it was Dewalt who won it.

I don’t think the player getting the free car would mind at all.

MLB gives a truck to the MVP of the all-star game. The players seem to be okay with it.

Some or these players make $20 or $30 million a season.

An $80,000 truck is like giving them a couple of extra nickels.

Still, you’d have to be one hell of a prima donna to complain about it!

I doubt the automakers think that giving a free truck to athletes is the best use of their money, especially in a CFL atmosphere that is not very good at marketing itself.

Meanwhile, giving away a free truck to CFL fans, who have to enter info about their current vehicle, what they’re looking for, and their timeframe is much more valuable since you can target them directly with different vehicles along their line too.

Giving a new car each game to a lucky seat number would gain some traction! Perhaps the league could pony up with about 10 makers for about ten cars a year each? Guarantee that every attending fan will be watching the half time seat draw.

Ya you gotta wonder what the point even is. That was a neat prize back in the 1970s but not now
