The 1 yr. contracts permitted for veterans has created such a large list. With TV ratings and attendance down, you don`t want players turning into mercenaries changing teams every season, and not allowing fans to identify with them.

The Als have 19, with Bourke, Bowman, Matte, Venable the priorities.

Here is the Als list:

Montreal (19)

*FB Jean-Christophe Beaulieu

*OL Josh Bourke

DE John Bowman

DB Jerald Brown

DB Dominique Ellis

*WR Sam Giguere

WR Mardy Gilyard

DT Corvey Irvin

QB Dan LeFevour

SB Nik Lewis

RB Stefan Logan

*OL Kristian Matte

*OL Jake Piotrowski

WR James Rodgers

WR Fred Stamps

*DE James Tuck

LB Winston Venable

*RB Carl Volny

CB Mitchell White

*FB Jean-Christophe Beaulieu - indifferent
*OL Josh Bourke - re-sign
DE John Bowman - re-sign
DB Jerald Brown - release
DB Dominique Ellis - indifferent
*WR Sam Giguere - release
WR Mardy Gilyard - release
DT Corvey Irvin - re-sign
QB Dan LeFevour - re-sign if 100%
SB Nik Lewis - re-sign 1year
RB Stefan Logan - re-sign 1year
*OL Kristian Matte - re-sign long-term
*OL Jake Piotrowski - re-sign
WR James Rodgers - release
WR Fred Stamps - release
*DE James Tuck - indifferent
LB Winston Venable - re-sign long-term
*RB Carl Volny - indifferent
CB Mitchell White - re-sign long-term

Of the Als 19 potential free agents, I expect that at least 8 of them won't return; they are:

Dan LeFevour.
Fred Stamps.
Nik Lewis.
James Rodgers. Already released.
Mardy Gilyard.
Corvey Irvin.
Jerald Brown.
Carl Volney.

To me, the priorities,in alphabetical order, are:

Josh Bourke. Should be re-signed before end of December,2015.
John Bowman. Should be re-signed before end of December,2015. Will receive a signing bonus.
Stefan Logan. Should be re-signed before end of December,2015. Will receive a signing bonus.
Kristian Matte. Should be re-signed before end of December.2015. Could receive a signing bonus.
Winston Venable. Should be re-signed before end of December,2015. Will receive a signing bonus.
Mitchell White. Should be re-signed before end of December,2015. Could receive a signing bonus.

No priorities,at least to me, amongst the remaining potential free agents; Samuel Giguère could be re-signed but he may have to accept a salary reduction. He does not have a bargaining power.

Richard

WR Sam Giguere - à garder 1 an

Jake Piotrowsky should be a priority.

Matt Nichols
Patrick Lavoie
Chris Williams
Willie Jefferson
Ted Laurent
Junior Turner
Aaron Grymes
Courtney Stephen

Ted Laurent, Pat Lavoie and maybe one or two import receivers is what I would look at.
Draft Offensive and defensive linesmen with top 2 picks
Scout the US for DB's and receivers.

With all these free agents looking for raises, they are going to have to move fairly quickly before the wells start to dry up. I expect there will be some bargains available of players who waited too long to sign, expecting the big score.

As for LeStafs list, I cant say I`m a fan of Nichols. Would certainly like to repatriate Lavoie, but I suspect he is now very happy with the RedBlacks.

As for Laurent, this is from when he chose the Tiger-Cats. Popp will have to compete with some higher power:

"He considered an offer from the Alouettes, because he grew up in Montreal's northeast suburb of St. Michel, which is the home of the aforementioned Cirque. But, even though his mother still lives there, after "praying and talking to my aunts, I didn't think the Alouettes were the right fit for me."

WE do have general agreement on most players. I do differ by cutting Deslauriers. This guy has been around for years and been mostly non-productive. I differ- with Knapton whom I believe had a great year. I believe our team has not been productive with most free agents. I have one exception, I'd pick up Lavoie. We know he'd fit in and, would be better than Bealieu.

I agree with Niagara. Deslauriers is a useless pylon masquerading as a player. Knapton did good work for us this year. Cut the former; keep the latter. The DE who should be on the bubble is Lavarias. Coming off multiple serious injuries and he's not a game-changer IMO.

This team will get younger next year or should. Money spent on guys like Deslauriers, Stamps, Hebert, Wood can be spent on younger players in areas of needs.

Yes, sheldon, I remember that quote well. Annoyed me at the time, annoys me now. What a monumental ego Laurent must have.

I agree with Richard that Laurent is a bit overrated. If Klassen comes back at 100%, I'm perfectly happy with him inside as our no. 1 national DT. I'm a bit concerned about the other DT spot -- Irwin had a good year, generally, but will he be the same after his injury? And certainly, it's important to bring in top-flight DE prospects; even if we do re-sign Bowman, we need to start grooming his replacement now.

Agreed; in terms of recruitment this offseason, as opposed to free agency, I think the priorities should be, in no particular order, the D line, defensive backs, and receivers.

J’appuie.
