Free Agency: Negotiation window opens Feb. 4

TORONTO — On Sunday, Feb. 4, we’ll hit an important marker in this year’s CFL Free Agency process.

Some teams are fairly set with the Elks (6) & Als (12) pretty much done before FA. TiCats have 29, as they say Duke & Edwards are gone. That’s a lot. How long can Argos (Hendryx, Ouellette etc) & Bombers (Oliveira, Schoen etc) wait until they have to move on & sign up other core players?

I’d have to think we’ll be seeing a lot of signings from those 2 teams this week. BC is interesting with only 14 but some big decisions there especially @ LB. The apparent Lokombo restructuring might foreshadow Hdladik going to FA.

As a Bomber fan, I hope the club will seek out some young guys during FA. The Bombs are too old and though I appreciate the loyalty they have to the guys who helped build a near dynasty, without bringing in competent and youthful players the franchise is going to implode. That would be terrible for Bomber fans and worse for the league. If they lose Brady Oliveira, it might not matter who they keep and who they lose after that. As for Hamilton, Calgary, and the Elks? Seems to be some very real structural issues within the organizations and bringing in FA talent with a high price might not do anything to move them toward true contention. I guess, we will see how it all plays out over the next ten days or so.

It might be time to merge these system free agency threads too before too long.

Stamps stand to lose a few really good Canadians, Luthur Hakunavanhu (R), Derek Wiggan (DT), RyanScevior (G) and Issac Adeyemi-Berglund (DE). The questions ie will they be more active than usual ?
