Four CIS Players Invited To East-West Shrine Bowl

A report posted on tsn.ca yesterday indicated that four CIS players (instead of the usual two) have been invited to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Houston on Jan 19/08:

Laval LB Eric Maranda
Sherbrooke WR Samuel Giguère
Saskatchewan DB Dylan Barker
Regina G Brendon LaBatte

TSN usually televises the ESPN2 broadcast of the game.

Maranda, an Argo draft pick is the guy I look for the Argos to groom to replace Hamilton's favourite player, Mike O'Shea at inside linebacker.

Are there normally only 2 CIS players chosen for this game? Great to see CIS talent being recognized each year. I could name a few more that could play & account themselves well.

I wonder why they selected 4 this year?

Also there’s so many players to evaluate at these events it’s hard to show much in the game because they have to get everyone on the field.

Don't forget that there is a tremendous amount of evaluating done during the whole week or more of practices.

Given that game day experience is the crucial test, these guys are being evaluated all week.

At any rate, is is good experience and exposure.

Now, do the CIS guys get as fair a look as NCAA guys? That's another subject entirely. But, it can't hurt!

congratulations to the CIS stars
