Former Ticat Defensive End Wayne Smith R.I.P.

Former Ticat defensive end Wayne Smith from Halifax passed away on the weekend. He last played for the 'Cats in the 1980 Grey Cup game against Edmonton and then retired. He was quick and mean and was remembered for clubbing Eskimos quarterback Tom Wilkinson in the head while knocking him out of bounds and out of the 1973 Grey Cup game when he was a member of the Ottawa Rough Riders defensive line known as "Capital Punishment".

8) I remember Wayne very well. Yes, he was a very tough dude, who had a long career in the CFL.
Finished his long career as a TiCat in 1980 !! Being a Canadian made him even more valuable as a starting DE.

Hear, hear.

RIP and condolences to his family.
