FOR LOVE AND MONEY: Miles has Redblacks 'D' clicking while daughter battles

The Redblacks defense has been superb this season, along with the special teams. No complaints about the Redblacks so far this season. The offense always takes more time to develop and they are almost there. As a season ticket holder since the Rough Riders, this has to be my favorite team since the J.C. Watts era.

There’s something nasty going through the Miles family right now. Is it bad luck? Bad genetics? A combination of both perhaps? I’m not qualified to say. IT’S JUST BAD.

All three kids / young adults amongst Barron Miles’ off-spring including his wife are battling life altering medical conditions. All those expensive multiple hospitalizations and surgeries would totally crush most US families not lucky enough to be in the top 1% of income earners in the US. We KNOW from stories like this that private health insurance down there doesn’t come close to covering the bills. It’s always a constant battle for both parents to keep the family together and above water in a typically losing cause. Statistically they’re doomed to fail either financially or health-wise without outside help.

"The bills, as you can imagine if you know anything about the U.S. health-care system, are astronomical.

The air ambulance alone was $40,000, but Ava was in no shape for any other mode of transportation and the Cleveland Clinic offered hope."

“Everything is a lot easier when you’re winning, but it is fun to watch him, and to get the team on the field and see the players doing well. That’s exciting. Those are the good moments.”

Along with living the absolute nightmare every parent has of watching their child fight for its life, the Miles need help to deal with the avalanche of medical bills.

Jennifer’s sister, Kim Weeks, visited Arizona for a couple of weeks this summer, with Ava in the hospital the entire time, and, after seeing how difficult the financial struggles were, decided they needed help:

He played in the CFL for several years and now coaches in it. He should be allowed to bring his family to Canada to get proper care and avoid being bankrupt. All the best to the family.
