Will someone please, please, please tell Jim Popp that Pippin does not have the range for 45 yard field goals. How many games will Popp blow this way? :thdn:
If you can't send your kicker out for a 45-goal FG try in a close game, he's worth bollocks. So the problem isn't Popp's decision so much as Whyte's continued presence on the roster...
Problem with Popp as a coach is that he has no authority on the field. He was giving the ST unit pats on the back and encouragement every time they messed the bed (which was every play, seemingly). The insane number of penalties reflects on the head coach. We're not even talking about rookies taking penalties, we're talking about seasoned veterans going offside, getting called for holding, etc.
Please. They gave up a TD on St as well. Got caught napping on the BC third-down trick play. Were out-punted all night, out-covered all night. Penalties galore. The long snap over Whyte’s head. The missed field goal. Not even close to being an acceptable performance…
I don’t buy it. There are missed calls on every play. Bottom line is, the two return TDs cancel each other out. We had one, BC had one. But then the rest of the ST comparison doesn’t favor us at all. We took holding penalties on every kick return, seemingly, even when the returner got nothing. The high snap that resulted in the safety. The brutal failure to cover on third and long that let McCallum complete a 15-yard pass and allow BC to move the chains and eventually resulted in more points against. The inability to consistently block for the kick returner. The inability to cover Brown. The offside that kept a BC drive going and, yet again, resulted in a field goal.
If you think ST did well just because Carrier broke one off for a TD, you weren’t watching the rest of the game.

Two players pointed to the wide man and nobody moved. Don’t forget that in this short week many players on ST would move to different positions or not play on ST as they are now starting . Also some were getting their first start of the year. I suspect it will be better next week.
I agree that the RTP call on Cash (? I think? Or maybe Klassen) was awful. He fell into Lulay incidentally and they flag it. Arg. Our D gets a bad rap because we play on the edge...
Pippin and Tisdale were the worst players on the field tonight again. Look at the difference with a "man" kicking for BC.
Twice McCallum saved a touchdown with his tackles. (Second one was an illegal trip) but he managed to sell it.
I like the fact that Jim is coaching. Now he's going to feel what its like to be giving a short field every game. I don't think it will be too long before he's replaced. We have the ratio space anyway. We are starting 2 guys on defense, 5 on offense plus Brouillette and Klassen that rotate in if we need them. With all the nine games there is money available to get a Medlock to take care of the kicking game.
I don't like Jim Popp as head coach but do as GM. But we have once again a Noel Devine situation. Correct me if I'm wrong but Sutton fumbled an AC pass vs Toronto. He dropped a kick off return vs Sask.. and one INT from Marsh , who has potential, went through his hands and into BC's defender. Is it going to be 4 outta 4? That was a wild game. So many errors but I'm glad we won and some new faces got chances to catch balls and make big plays.
Very true! The stupid penalties are unacceptable. They continually shot themselves in the foot! Duron Carter catches a 52 yard pass. Then with 16 seconds left in the half, he gets a 15 yard unneccessary roughness penalty, putting BC in field goal range. They scored 3 points. Very stupid!!!
Yup, Cash fell into Lulay. The only reason he extended his arm, was to prevent himself from falling on his face… He accidentally hit Lulay in the process.
Then, McCallum tackles Carrier (on a long return, that would have been a TD), by extending his leg and tripping him! Totally against the rules. No penalty…
Every time that prick Johnston referees against The Als, he always seems to make mistakes that favor the OTHER team!!! Johnny can’t stand that prick!!! :thdn:
