Fire Dennis McKnight

STs coverage is absolutely, completely unacceptable.

Where do you think you are ? ….In the Alouettes form or something ? :slightly_smiling_face:

Without improvement it’s going to kill us and knowing HAM it’ll be at the worst possible time.

The easiest fix for me is find a guy to kickoff. I find our punt coverage to be adequate

ML just doesn’t give the distance or hang time required.

Or you need to do what the NFL is doing and find different trajectories and spots to quick to. which falls to the ST coach.

However as soon as our #1 return guy is back the ST coach will look while lot better.

Can’t use a roster spot for kickoffs only, you’d think Constantinou could kick off, or at least learn to.

Get one of those US kickers, they put it into the end zone on almost. every kick off. :slightly_smiling_face:

Apparently, he isn’t any good at it.

Here’s my interaction with the former special teams coordinator Paul Boudreau;

At the time, I didn’t realize who he was :sweat_smile:

I thought he did it at least once a few weeks ago when Leggs got hurt. Could be wrong.

Also find it really tough to believe he can’t learn the skill….

He stood in and kicked a PAT a couple of weeks ago, but Liegghio still handled the kickoffs.

I agree, Constantinou has a huge leg. You’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to learn how to kickoff over the course of 2-3 seasons.

Really not sure what the solution is here. Like you said, the team can’t really afford to bring someone in just to handle kickoffs, though that would be cool to see. They would have to replace someone and how do you choose? Liegghio has been a consistent kicker, and Constantinou has been just as good at punting the ball.

Same punter and same kicker as last year. ST covers is now noticeably worse (post Boudreau). Why?

Do you have any stats to show how the coverage has been on kickoffs and punts this year compared to last year?

I do! I havn’t collected the data from Week 14 just yet so keep that in mind. A bit tough to present, so hopefully it makes sense.

I wish I had thought of tracking the number and percentage of big plays allowed last season. I imagine that’s where the biggest difference lies. Here’s how the 2025 Ticats stack up to the rest of the league;

*Sorted by Percentage of Plays allowing a Big Play (15+ yards on punt returns and 30+ yards on kickoff returns)

So their punt coverage is slightly improved and near the top of the league whereas their KO coverage is much worse and near the bottom of the league? That’s interesting, and it kinda matches how it’s felt this year.

Probably has more to do with kick placement, hang time and distance.

That’s information that @BetweenTheGoalposts almost certainly has. Maybe not hang time, but you track distance and placement, no?

This makes sense. I think Constantinou punts usually have hang time and are well placed, giving the coverage team time to get in position.

I think Liegghio’s kickoffs, even when he gets them to the 10 yard line, seem to be lower and more Line-drive types. It appears that our coverage teams on Kickoffs are often out of position especially in the middle of the field. It has cost us a least a game ( or two) this year.

Stuff ain’t getting fixed.

Who would you replace him with? Tough to find someone with experience unless you go with Lapo or someone similar.

What’s Reinebold doing these days… lol

Fans demanding in-season firings is a tradition in these parts. I’m not letting it die. But big parts of STs do suck.
