Ferguson: The 5 best CFL fits for Nathan Rourke

Rourke would make more money holding a clipboard in the NFL than a CFL starter.
His fit in the “Center of the Universe” would be closer to home.
He’ll be back only if he runs out of options in the NFL.
Like what’s left, Arena league, XFL (still around?) Flag football.

Can you see BC trading Adams to make room or Rourke?

He’ll be back, but he wants to play in BC. Most of the others who try the latest American alternative to the NFL come back to the CFL.

[/qu The problem is that he can't get close enough to a game-day roster to even hold a clip-board. The current Atlanta experiment is a joke...they have 5 QBs. And in Tranna he would be completely obscure. They had a great run..didn't move the fan-needle. As for the NFL in Tranna....won't happen any time soon. Short memories? They played a game there a few years ago....couldn't draw flies. And BTW, Buffalo has territorial rights that they won't give up.

No, that would be a slap in the place for VA. He’s proven himself, while Rourke had one good season and then left for the NFL.
If he was available right now I don’t think any CFL team would go after him.

The stamps should sign him
Our guy is crap :poop:

The NFL has 0 formula for finding good quarterbacks. It’s all about the money they’ve invested in a player. Look at how many high-ranked QB draft picks flame out and do nothing. A guy trying to break into the QB system is going to have a very hard time. He has to clearly beat out the guys the team has signed to $$ contracts, and even then, he could still get cut. No one ever went broke overestimating the stupidity of coaches in general. They’re human beings and they frequently make mistakes, letting their biases get in the way of objective evaluation.

Agreed. As I have said many times, Rourke’s big mistake was bolting for the NFL after only one season (which as not even a complete season due to injury). He needed to build sustained success. I cannot think of anyone at the QB position that made the CFL-NFL jump that did not have at least 2 contracts in the CFL.

In the last 30 there have only been two CFL QBs that became regular starters in the NFL and both had more than 6 seasons in the CFL.
But I understand why he would jump when he was offered an NFL contract.

Agree that Rourke tried his luck too soon. I thought he should have stayed at least two more years. Prove that you’re a winner first because a CFL QB is only going to get one shot to stick in the NFL.

I think BC would get rid of Adams for Rourke. I like Adams and he seems to be a good person, but as a player, I think Rourke is/would_be better. Attendancewise, I don’t think the QB swap would hurt the numbers.

(Regarding the NFL in Toronto, Bob Ackles’ fear was the corporate support. Instead of spending advertising money on the CFL, it would go to the NFL, instead.)

Bringing on Rourke in Hamilton, if they could sign him this year to be waiting in the wings for 2025 would be awesome for Hamilton football. Bo is having a great year and Rourke as insurance for this season and waiting in the wings for 2025 would be deal of the Century for Tigercat fans. For now anyways Rourke seems intent on continuing his pursuit of the NFL as he has signed with Atlanta Falcons . If and when his practice roster eligibility runs out then the CFL becomes a real possibility.

I doubt Hamilton would give up on Bo if he is having a great year, why would you sign another QB if your guy is getting it done? If they signed Rourke next year they would have to release Bo and Bo could continue for another 5 or 6 years to age 40 like a few other QBs.
If he does come back to the CFL then the obvious team would be the Riders, Trevor Harris would be 39 next season.

The Argos need fans period (and an actual football stadium) Kelly is not going to be able to brush this off and the Argos can easily cancel his contract. With Nathan they can redeem themselves , draw enough fans to get a new field. Kelly will land on his feet in Saskatchewan, where a record doesn’t mean squat. It is bush league to see professional (?) football being played in something like a US highschool field. So Pay the kid , void Kelly’s contract and for gawd’s sake get a professional facility

The Argos would never get a “new field” why would they need a new one? BMO is an ideal stadium, close to downtown, next to a major highway, on a rail line with it’s own station, close to Liberty Village, a huge parking lot next to the stadium and across the road at Ontario Place and parking inside at the convention centre.
People in Toronto couldn’t care less if there was a Canadian playing QB and that isn’t going to attract more fans. The attendance has been stuck around 12k for at least 5 seasons.

Rourke didn’t increase attendance in BC when he played there and they had a great season in 2022.
Kelly will be back after his suspension, they aren’t going to release him, they would’ve done that before they suspended him.

True! And they don’t want to look stupid by having a “walk-on” outperform their “wasted” draft pick. Also, I don’t think anyone commented on another challenge for Rourke. Part of his success was attributable to his ability to run out of trouble. The game is more structured down south. If coach wants you to stay in the pocket, you follow orders…or sit. Even the pig-headed CJones sat Tre for the best part of a season, then replaced him with a totally inept Macbeth…mostly cuz he didn’t “stay in his lane”…which, I know, has nothing to do with rolling out. Still, coaches can make or break a player, on a whim, and there are plenty of whims in the No Fun League.

There is absolutely ZERO CHANCE that current GM/HC would touch that head-case with a ten-foot pole! You must be kidding!

You must have been overseas, or in the space station for the past several months if you didn’t get the memo about the Riders polishing off the tarnish on their image, and that started with the Mace hire.

Nathan Rourke in riderville …:rofl::rofl::rofl:, living part time in that small hamet regina,:rofl: not happening unless the roughriders brass lobby vigorously to get a ridiculous inticing monetary player contract with special league exemption from Commissioner Randy Ambrosie and the CFL. The riders could then throw all the money and the kitchen sink at Nathan to play for them, it’s a possibility to look into so never say never. If the riders team president craig reynolds would get off his butt immediately to explore every avenue available within the league to make it happen then there’s always the possibility dependent of Mr. Rourke accepting a offer he can’t refuse to play for the roughriders of Saskatchewan. C’mon Craig Reynolds, get it done, it’s a once in life time opportunity for a franchise player at the all important position of quarterback and taking that Football Club to new heights and Grey Cup Championships galore.

Whoa dude… (I’m speaking BC lingo here)… where’s the love for VA?
