If ya don’t get at it when ya get to it
You won’t get to it to get at it again

Just take a little piece of P. E. I and old Saskatchewan
Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Quebec and Newfoundland
Alberta and Manitoba
Ontario and B. C
And you’ll have found the stompin’ grounds of all my friends and me
And you’ll have found the stompin’ grounds of all my friends and me

OH! The good ol’ Hockey game, is the best game you can name.
And the best game you can name, is the good ol’ Hockey game.

From “I am the wind”:
I am the wind, eternal wind
Around the door, between gods and men
And if you see how I go in
You’ll have the key, and know the wind

From “Football Song”:
With a ‘First Down’, ‘Second Down’,
a ‘First Down’ again
‘Snap’ it to the Quarter-back and flip it to the wind
Catch it on the ’40 yard’ and never turn around
Then you run it to the ‘End Zone’
and get a ‘Touch Down’

By the way, it is spelled “Connors”, not Conners. He was my dad’s cousin BTW, so I guess that makes me 2nd cousin, I guess.

I have a somewhat odd take on Stompin Tom.

I have never really liked his music but I LOVED the idea of ST and deserves his icon status.

and he beat the living tar out of 29 men .

and high in the ceiling of the Pembroke Pub

there’s 29 bootmarks and they’re signed with love .

Stompin Tom knew the place he spoke about whether it’s Leamington or Pembroke or any other Canadian town .

Pembroke was a lumber town and when the lumber men came back from the bush there were brawls in the taverns . Creating the myth with the song was a way of connecting us to our past and present . Creating Our own Paul Bunyan was genius .

I spent two months in Petawawa in winter of 74/75. Went into Pembroke every weekend. It were a nice little town.

Back then it was still buzzing downtown . The population is a bit smaller now .

Petawawa has grown quite a bit and has built up the area .

The two places should amalgamate as there is not much space now in-between .

I was on the base in training for 3rd RCR. Didn’t seem like there was much to Petawawa outside the base then. The memory does get a little foggy tho.

Was going to ask if you were in the military but didn’t want to pry . Too bad you didn’t see it in the summer . It has some nice beaches and nature surrounding the area .

There is a new bars , new restaurants , new motels , car dealership etc… . the main drag now extends out quite a bit almost to Pembroke .
