MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes have listed quarterback Cody Fajardo as doubtful and the Saskatchewan Roughriders listed running back AJ Ouellete as out for their matchup on Thursday.
Defending Grey Cup Championship Head Coach Jason Maas and his staff very astute to rest Cody Fajardo’s injury. It will pay off at the end of the 2024 CFL season when the Alouettes win the coveted Grey Cup once again.
With Fajardo on the 6 game I can think of one very brash Als fan who won’t have anything to be brash about for a while. Caleb Evans isn’t going to take them anywhere but down.
When you’re 5-1 & the reigning GC champion for all of this season, you can be brash. The team is about more than Caleb Evans.
Look at the stats. One of the Als or Riders are atop most of the defensive categories this year. They have scored/allowed an almost identical # of points. You can argue that the D on both clubs is probably the top reason for their success so far.
Evans is not a bad second stringer. He has now got another half game under his belt but most importantly he has taken the starter reps for the past week. With Mass and Calvillo I expect to see an offensive plan to suit Evans’s skill set.
