Everything wrong with the Way Too Early AMSOIL Power Rankings

I entirely agree it matters. I just think you’re fixating on your own team. Every team deals with these same issues. Injuries are not unique to your squad.

I assure you, every other team had to play a rested bye team while they were on a short week in 2024. Sometimes a brutally short week.

And we argue every year about this, and well, it just seems like they are not going to do anything about this sordid reality of short weeks like when a team plays late on the West Coast Saturday night or on Sunday and then has to play on Thursday.
That’s brutal.

The Devil’s in the details. When I look at the 2024 Rider schedule, I can find 3 cases where they were on short weeks but 1 of those, unless I am missing something, is the Labour Day doubleheader where there is no advantage to either team. The league also had multiple cases where teams, outside of LD, played doubleheaders. For instance, Wpg played on short weeks twice but also in the LD classic & doubleheaders with Hamilton & Edmonton - short weeks but neither team benefitted. And on several instances a “short” week consisted of playing 6 days later vs teams who had 1 more day of rest. The Riders also benefitted twice, catching the Argos off a bye in week 5 & the Als on a short week in week 11, both of them played at home in Regina.

When you look at both sides where you played on a short week or caught a team on a short week there really is not much benefit with a few exceptions. The REDBLACKS appear to have had no short weeks last year & caught 3 teams on short weeks. Scheduling has a lot to do with it. In a lot of cities there are major events competing for space. I suspect that in 2026 with the World CUP coming to Toronto & Vancouver, those teams will suffer the most.

It does happen yes, but if you look at what i originally quoted it makes sense. He was referring to the west/east record. In our case 3/4 games out east were on short weeks. Our record on regular weeks was 4-1against the east. On short weeks with the travel. 0-2-1

PS: you guys were 1-2 on short weeks out west and 1 was against a team coming off a bye. And yes you lost.

I know we lost. I have no idea what point you’re trying to make here. Every team is adversely affected by bye weeks playing rested teams.

OK - let’s talk about being hard done by. Take the Lions who regularly have to cross the country.

Wk 1 - away in Toronto

Wk 2 - Home 6 days later

Wk 3 - short week - away to Wpg

Wk 4 - short week - away to Ham

Wk 5 - Home

Wk 6 - short week - away to SK

Wk 7 - away to Cal

Wk 7 - short week - away to Wpg

Wk 11- Home

Wk 12 - away to Ott

Wk 12 - Home

Wk 14 - off to Mtl

Notice a pattern? How often does BC zigzag back & forth from home to cities east? As they went down the home stretch from Wk 11 thru 14 they went to Ottawa, flew back home, 5 days later had to play in Mtl before returning home. Considering the days missed for travel, practice etc.. that’s a tough schedule.

There’s fans in the league that have a lot more to cry about than the Riders. Most of the major cities have to work other major events into their schedules. Not to diss the Riders on this but, as we know, they are the main tenant & if other possible dates conflict with what the Riders want - say, an NFL team would like to use the facility, they can say no. The Riders have complained to the CFL yearly about having to play Thursday games - & Friday games.

We can look at all kinds of factors when going through the schedule. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Indeed. Montreal opened 2024 with a three-game roadtrip that also included a game out west.

The three i referred to was in MTL, Ott and Tor where they travelled on 5, 6 and 6 days. Those three had 13, 13 and 14 days.

I also took exception to you saying that the top clubs in the west benefited from playing weaker west teams.
WPG was 4-4 vs East
Sask was 4-3-1 vs East
BC was 5-4 vs East.

BC was mentioned. They had 5 games at 6 days. On the surface that seems like they got screwed but really it worked out well for them. The first 3 games of 5 were in the first month and a half of the season while they were still fresh. One of those was against a team with only 5 days between and who had to travel. The Riders all took place after week 8 when you don’t really want that especially against rested teams.

BC then had a bye mid season. Next 6 day for BC was week 12 in Ottawa. Finally in week 14 against MTL who was once again coming off a bye but at that point already had the div locked up so they didn’t really care as much i don’t think.

If i were a player i’d prefer the 3 up front and then a bye mid season followed by another 6 day game and finally only one 6 day against a team coming off a bye that already had the div locked up. The Riders had no byes between week 4 and 15 so yah i’d trade the 3 road games we had against the 4 games they got stuck with any day of the week.

PS: Don’t care that the Argos had a 6 day game in the first month of the season. If you are going to get one thats ideal. If you guys want to call it crying? Whatever. It is what it is. A BS schedule.

PS: Week 4 was a 6 day short week against a 5 day road team.
Week 5 was 10 days off then on to Ham.
Week 6 was 6 days again
Week 7 was 8 days and then a 1hour flight to Calgary.
Week 8 was a bye.
Week 9 was Winnipeg.

You can spin it any way you want., SHF. The Riders whine every year about scheduling - having to play on THURSDAYS!!! We want WEEKEND games to allow fans to come into Regina!!!. Well, this year you play ONE Thursday on the 1st week of the season, 1 Sunday (LDC), 2 Fridays & 4 Saturdays. None of the teams like playing Thursdays.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:There you go - is there something there to nit pick about? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: There was a lot less complaining when the team was playing at rat infested Taylor Field.

How about dem beer prices???:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The only time rats were in Taylor Field was when Calgary was in town

Well, Alberta IS a rat free province. The football team is no different than us tourists who carry them over in our pockets. All the little rat guillotines were too much of a public spectacle.

If the east wants to host Thursday games the why not try to have it follow a west teams bye? Is it really that complicated? When you start to build the sched then start with the Thursday games and the schedule a bye the previous week for a west team to make the trip. I just don’t understand why you can’t build the schedule out from there. Surely it would fit for one of the five west teams? And why not do the same for a MTL trip to Vancouver? I thought the world had AI already! We need it because we sure lack common sense.

With such fine spirit and logic as demonstrated here, we may have to have you barge into the next CFL board meeting after the 2025 season to clean some house so as to implement such improved measures for the 2026 schedule and various easier fixes (don’t interrupt game action TSN any more with some damn interview, OR ELSE).

Prepare for battle.

In related news, those glue traps work for rats and mice.

Is there still a major presence of rodents in any of the present CFL stadiums? I’m surprised if that is the case.

Sorry but when i read your response i cant really tell if you like the concept or its sarcasm lol.

Aye, limited medium, no I like it a lot! Tarry no longer and execute the mission!

But yes there is an element of sarcasm - of the CFL Board of Governors and their inclination to inaction to address even the easiest things to fix!

Thanks a bunch and in the meanwhile i’ll look to see if those glue traps work on Elk lol
