Evans relies on experience, defence in win over Riders

VANCOUVER — Dane Evans relied on previous experience and a stout defence when called to action in place of starter Vernon Adams Jr. to lead the BC Lions to a 19-9 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday at BC Place.

And just to prove that today’s victory was no fluke, Dane Evans will get to showcase his hairy arm all over again in the rematch next Saturday if Vernon Adams is still laid up.

Dane is like every great actor who ever got fired from one big studio and hired by the next after being told by some talent-blind big wig that “You and your glass eye will never work in Hollywood again Peter Falk!”

Getting run out of Hamilton at the end of last season was NOT the end of the line for this talented quarterback. Talk about making the most of an opportunity for redemption. Go get 'em Columbo!

Brutal year for quarterbacks. Hamilton and Ottawa have lost 2, with Ottawa’s gone for the year. Saskatchewan lost Harris for the season and now Adams is out, hopefully not for long.
If one or more of Collaros, Kelly, Fajardo or Maier go down it will be a disaster for the league. Seasoned backups don’t grow on trees, and the Lions are lucky to have Evans, inconsistent as he may be, available.

If officiating that we saw last night continues we will soon not run out of healthy QB’s

He did nothing that wasn’t helped by that bogus roughing the passer call in the first quarter that created a nine point swing and had a big effect on the outcome.
