Trio of receivers added to Eskimo roster
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos announced today the signing of three import wide receivers. Richard Alston is an East Carolina product who signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2003 and played for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe in 2004. At the end of that season he returned to the Browns for nine games, making an impact on special teams with 46 kickoff returns for 1016 yards, including a touchdown on an opening kickoff versus the Ravens.
At Texas A&M Chris Cole caught 89 passes for 1,383 yards and eight touchdowns for the Aggies, becoming one of the leading receivers in school history. In his junior year he led the Aggies in receptions (38), receiving yards (667) and touchdowns (5), while averaging 17.6 yards per catch. Cole played for the Denver Broncos from 2000-2003, playing in 35 games. In 2001, he ranked third in the AFC in kickoff return average (23.5), returning 48 kicks for 1,127 yards. His 48 returns tied a franchise record. In 2004 he attended the Oakland Raiders’ training camp and then signed with Jacksonville in 2005.
Chris Collins set nine Ole Miss records during his college career, including all-time leader in career receptions (198), receiving yards (2,621), touchdown receptions (24) and 100-yard receiving games (11). Chris is second on the Rebels’ list in career all-purpose yards (3,274) and also boasts the second-longest streak in school history with 35 straight games with a catch. He spent the 2005 season in NFL Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils.
