Eskimos sign DB Walls

I'm a little curious why the Bombers cut him, but I do like some of his stats. Particularly his picks, and his returns for touchdowns. That's something the Eskimos have lacked. What was it, 9 games before we finally got a pick? Shameful...

Its a good signing for us considering we've already released a few DBs from last season, he had a great season last year.. im hoping this guy isnt a dud for the esks though, like the rest of em were...

Another DB we signed is Lawrence Gordon. 15_Championships doesn't seem to like him, but this article certainly paints a favourable picture. He has some decent stats. At worst, he'll provide some competition at camp.

8 games without a pick, and they finish the season with 19. Dont know about you, but that seems pretty good to me. With the addition of Parker, Drew, Malbrough, last season, they seemed to play much better at the end of the season, than they did at the beginning. Now with Walls and Gordon, they should have a better start to the season defensively. This should also allow Goss to move back to halfback where he can dominate.
Jesse Lumsden siting in Edmonton. Any truth to this?

I agree, the Esks did finish well in regards to getting picks; however, going 8 games without a pick is bad. That can’t be denied. And unfortunately, Parker is back in T.O. this season, so hopefully the addition of Walls and Gordon will help.

Your secondary will be interesting to watch this season, Chief.

Drew and Walls gives you two good halfbacks; losing Parker on the corner hurts, Gordon is not an upgrade there in my opinion. . . and I guess Goss will be on the other corner again. How do you feel about safety?

Lenny is a physical Corner who is used to playing on an Island he tackles well, hits like a Mack truck and loves to strip the ball. He was never a Ball Hawk until he came to the CFL but will solidify our secondary and fill the void left by the departure of Byron Parker.

Great research Dan thanks!

And I for one am happy that he’s in the CFL playing for the Esks now with that NFL resume too. Note that the KC Chiefs made the NFL playoffs in the 2006 season too, his last full season of play in the NFL, but they had an absolutely woeful offence and their defeat by Indianapolis led to the rightful firing of Herman Edwards for whom I am not only not sold for sake of as a head coach but also as a current awful NFL analyst on ESPN.

I wonder what’s happened to him since 2006? Injuries? And for some reason he ended up in the NFL cellar of the Rams too I see.

Also notice that frame of 6-4 197 is unusual for cornerback and a guy with low 4.4s speed or better, as is now the overwhelming norm for any cornerback in the NFL. There just are not many guys with that sort of speed playing cornerback who are at least 6-0, plus you have the wingspan and hops to make such player physically formidable before evaluating positional prowess.

Though not as pertinent in the CFL with its 1-yd neutral zone unlike in the NFL where bumps are allowed up to 5 yards so long as the ball has not been thrown forward, this is one player with the size not to be physically intimidated by most any larger wide receiver these days post-Michael Irvin where the prototype in either league more and more are receivers who are 6-0 and 200 with speed.

umm he was due a 6 figure signing bonus and the bombers decided to cut him instead of pay it. thats the reason, some will tell u its cuz he couldnt tackle but the real reason is he was due a massive bonus that the bombers werent willing to pay. just look at lennys history… signed with calgary, big money… traded to the bombers for like a 5th round pick… wouldnt sign until 2 weeks into camp… whats gonna happen is walls will play well for u for 1 year but then u will cut him because the bonus he is owed could very well cripple your team in the future.

dont get used to having lenny around for more than 1 year tho. seems to be his m.o. or whatever. but ya he’s a good player, a baller. the guys got skills no doubt.
