Elks take down Roughriders for first win of the season

REGINA —  Tre Ford might’ve dominated the headlines going into the Edmonton Elks’ battle with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday evening, but it was Javon Leake who stole the show with a three-touchdown performance in Regina as the Elks picked up their first win of the season over the West Division leaders.

Those Elks took 'em down and humped them in their own park. That’s what happens when you put Tre Ford into the lineup… instant rutting season. :beaver:

Hopefully the low point of the season but hats off to Edmonton. Brand new confidence with ford at the helm. Cue Bom guy that lives in the discussion of every rider game but it’s invisible in his own community. I can’t wait to hear his advice as his team struggles in the basement

Edmonton Elks 4 the win :white_check_mark:

(Mod edit- it is against site rules to troll the losing team in the immediate aftermath of a loss, not to mention unsportsmanlike).

You make it all sound really kinky, plus the aggression equated with the sex strikes me as definitely on the sick side. I know these guys pat each other on the butt but this is on another level. Pretty twisted.

saskatchewan roughriders, same every year. Win some to start the season then tank. O’day has to go along with Reynolds, when will riderville ever wake up? Don’t condone losing riderville, accepting the same results every year, wake up and avoid drinking the green Koolaid the oday and reynolds serve you.

Guilty as charged.

Once the fat lady has finished singing you can ask her to spank me. :beaver:

Can somebody please tell me why the Riders last “TD” counted? Elks’ pass interference? Then wouldn’t it go to the 1 yard line even if the clock was at zero? The receiver definitely didn’t have possession of the ball before he was down. I just don’t get it.

Our CFL Command Center :canada: features the best, most concise live game analysis pro sports can offer. They are never wrong. If the receiver in question didn’t have possession then before he was down then the CFL Command Center :canada: would’ve overturned the catch.

The officials didn’t care - the game was over, the points were window dressing. As an Elks fan - the closer it seems it was, the better.

A beat down is easier to flush and walk away from than a game you should have won…

I think because the ball never touched the ground the ball was still in play after the fumble made by the riders, who eventually ended up with possession. Both defense and offense are entitled to go after the fumble /pass as long as the defense do not imped with the offense so no pass interference. At least that is my view.

Low point for Sask? Definitely high for Elks! Hopefully they’ll remain competitive and beating them will require damn hard work but whichever team faces them. The only guy i didn’t see smiling was MBT. I have nothing against him but he’s always seemed so downcast. Maybe it was bringing his team down. This was like a whole different bunch of guys.

Congrats to Ford and the Elks on their first win.

It shows a blueprint for how to run against Mace’s defence for every other OC. That’s the bad part for the Riders…

(Dear Mod edit,

You should hear what the riderville fanbase is saying about the saskatchewan roughriders on the two radio call in stations in Regina. I’m not trolling or unsportsmanlike. I call it as I see it, Riders lost.

The receiver doesn’t need possession BEFORE they are down to make a completion. The receiver needs possession WHEN they are down and IN-BOUNDS and before the ball contacts the ground.

That sounds about right.

I remember a pass that Kevin Glenn threw to a receiver that had already lost his footing in the end zone and was lying on his side. No one covered him once he fell so Glenn alertly threw a dart that hit him in the stomach for an easy TD.

Now you are simply saying the Riders lost, which I think is obvious to everyone. I’m not sure why you feel the need to continually harp on that, although I suppose if you just said that repeatedly it wouldn’t offend any rules, but just be repetitive and irritating. But adding comments like “waa waa” with a crying emoji isn’t cool or sportsmanlike. And my rule of thumb is not to get in the face of a losing team’s fans on the night of the loss at the very least if you absolutely feel you must take that tack in the first place.

Look, there are fans of every CFL team in this forum and almost all of them are civil and respectful win or lose. The forum is a better place when that happens and worse when forum members antagonize each other. After all it’s not life or death, just a football game. It is entertainment. Everyone’s favourite team will both win and lose throughout the year so we all essentially live in glass houses when we are criticizing other teams and boosting our own. I’m just suggesting you lighten up a bit with the constant criticism of the Riders organization.
