EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks have released wide receiver Dillon Mitchell, the club announced Friday.
Here we go, back to the revolving door🤬
I had high hopes for Dillon after his first year in CFL but the past 2 years have been underwhelming so no surprise he was shown the door.
Speaking of Mitchell, Bo straight up for ole man harris reuniting him with Jake Mair at cfl sask
Who is this Jake Mair that you talk about ? Never heard of him .
First anyone who thought the status quo was going to be a thing with Ed Hervey at the helm hasn’t been paying attention. However, when the EE just let Dillon Mitchell go and I was shocked so I turned to radio host Jason Gregor who has a good rapport with Ed Hervey and asked what he thought was going on?
JG ~ “I’d guess cap related. Hervey, who was a receiver himself, has always [said] you can find receivers and is leery on cost of receivers.”
EE Colour Guy on CHED880 Dave Campbell’s take is a value for performance and cap savings move with WR Mitchell. Makes me think Geno is in tough in E-Town with GM Hervey.
The EE are freeing up cash for other FA’s namely LT Martez Ivey and I hope OG Shane Richards
If they are not going to pay Dillon Mitchell do you think the EE are going to pay Geno Lewis? I have doubts and my bet would be Hervey has someone in mind most likely in the recruiting pipeline.
I am hoping it is one of these four RFAs (Recruitment Free Agent - Three Have Been On The EE Neg List)
Kawaan Baker (56) - RFA 6’1 210
Caleb Chapman (74) - RFA 6’5 220
Daniel Arias (76) - RFA 6’4 208
Jaxon Janke (40) - RFA 6’2 214
All are young, fast, have size, and decent hands and the top three have been on the EE Neg list this year. Janke is an FCS player from the South Dakota Jackrabbits who was not on the EE Neg List but can flat-out fly.
I suspect JJ Lapp is now the likely X WR in E-Town.

You’ll soon here great cfl news emanating out of regina during the 2025 cfl season as Quarterback extraordinary Jake Mair formerly of the Calgary Stampeders personally carries the lowly riders of saskatchewan to new winning heights.
QB’s getting hit too hard leads to concussions and some might lose their marbles. This is the first time he either lost a letter or legally changed his name. Perhaps the hit got him so scared he entered the Witness Relocation Program
The article I read said he set career highs for receptions, yards and touchdowns last year.
Sounds like the Elks are going to hang their hat on a bunch of young guys who have never caught a pass from either of our quarterbacks, oh goody, this sounds like fun!
You mean like Gittens Jr. who was targeted 117 times the same amount Ford threw all season?
Ya don’t think changing the starting QB meant changing the scheme of the offense and the receivers necessary to play it? C’mon man!
Likely Fieldside Trio: Tre Odoms-Dukes 6’3 216 (CFL Cgy) | 81 Mathis 6’7 203 (CFL Edm) | J Smith 6’1 194 (CFL Ott/Edm) - all can block which is key.
Likely Boundary Duo: 00 JJ Laap 6’1 190 | 19 Gittens Jr. 5’11 191 (CFL Tor/Edm) - big play with possession.
It is easy to observe the EE are moving to a high percentage smashmouth RPO horizontal spread offense. That takes a different kind of receiver on the field side.
and Mitchell still only averaged 40 yards per game last season.
The scouting report knock on Mitchell was he had poor work and effort levels which explains as a 4.4/40 burner why he had such lousy YAC.
Let’s hope you’re right.
I’m right. It’s an obvious observation.
Well, we’d all better pray you are, because if this outfit goes 0 and a bunch to start the season that could be a wrap, they’ve got to give the fans a reason to come out and support them and yet another full blown refit isn’t conducive to that.
Oh they have to win to put bums in the seats. In the back half of last season, there was light at the end of the tunnel, but that could easily be a 2025 train .
Having typed that, I am not a glass-half-empty typical EE fan.
As dismal as it has been for a decade after Chris Jones screwed us something was reinvigorating about karma sending Jonsey packing and then the team winning a few games. It is like a dark curse of CJ has been removed from the hallowed ground of the commonwealth. I do believe the EE have turned the corner, finally!
and who can’t get excited about Mark Kilam?
“You have to ask the people that made the decision in Calgary, that’s out of my control. I can tell you I’m going to f***ing bring it in Edmonton — I can tell you that right now. You can print that,” Kilam said from the league’s winter meetings in Charlotte, N.C.
It starts with coaching and Kilam is a beauty!
Total nonsense!
