EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks announced on Thursday that they have released kicker Sergio Castillo and defensive lineman Avery Ellis.
Releaseing Ellis not that surprising but Castillo? Wonder what happened…
Looking at the Elks roster it has to be a salary dump.
You’ve got two Globals and a (I assume cheaper) National competing for the kicker spot plus Michael Domagala and an (I assume cheaper) unknown American competing for the punter role.
A Global kicker and rookie punter salary combined might still be less that what Castillo was getting paid on his own.
That was about all I could think it may be.
