He always just constantly kept changing players, never building a team and family like atmosphere.

Woof, the axe finally falls. Probably a good thing even though Edmonton could easily have been 2-3 or even 3-2 with some better luck and maybe 1-2 fewer penalties.

I would not expect miracles from Jarious Jackson, though. He’s been the OC since the start of the season so it’s not like his hands were tied up until this point. And Shivers is still the DC.

No way it actually happened! Wow… I was not expecting this during the season.

Jones was hired by the Elks in December of 2021 and guided the team to a combined record of 8-33 over the course of two-plus seasons

Ouch lol

I had literally posted in the Elks thread 20 minutes before this post, soon after donning my new sad sack, to enquire about the timing of his firing given the contractual considerations for his pay.

Last year, we concocted a plan to have him escorted out in the wild on a short sabbatical during the bye week. And then he would be left alone and that would be that, but nothing came out of that plot and I suppose it’s more civil to do it this way.

Oh and it can still get worse for a few more games, but at least we can’t go lower than 0 wins!

I still think Jones is a good football mind, but I don’t think anyone can really be both GM and HC in this league anymore and do a great job of both.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him resurface somewhere as a DC in a few years. He’s got multiple Cup rings as a coordinator.

To put this in bottom-dwelling terms, :pensive:
as an adage goes for these depths in which we have dwelled as fans,
it’s better to expect at least new :poop: that you can flush anew than to just simply not have any :poop: happening at all.

Don’t flush me. I’m just the messenger. That’s where we are folks.

That’s where we have to go next in the transition in order to grow.

No crops grow on a beach and all that you know.

I think you are correct that two jobs like that is one too many.

Dr. Goalposts @BetweenTheGoalposts may or may not concur along these lines as can others here with laboratories for gridiron research, indeed I would agree Chris Jones should have his own laboratory too, but there is no way in hell he’s getting near my lab.

Ottawa is 3-2 and in the thick of a playoff race. Why would anyone get fired right now?

Was Jones in the 3rd year of a 3-year deal? Just curious if the Elks will be carrying any salary for Jones against the 2024 coaching cap.

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks announced on Monday that they have parted ways with general manager and head coach Chris Jones.

Not a guy I liked at all as an opposing fan but even I felt his pain the last couple of years…their effort never matched their record.

Yes. Not sure how that all works

New ownership is also apparently in place. Just takes a while to dot the I’s and cross the T’s.

This may be their first move. I would say that because of the odd timing.
I can’t see how Jarious retains play calling and head coaching though.

Would rather have seen Geroy take over as interim head coach.
