EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks have added six players to their practice roster, including former East Division All-CFL defensive lineman A.C. Leonard, the club announced Saturday.
The Elks have made some really good moves in their turnaround - with Oakman & AC the DL looks a lot better & the depth is great. They rotate Christmas in there as well & he’s a sneaky signing.
I have to say I was puzzled when they brought in Mayala & Tevin Jones as they were disappointments coming off last season. Moncrief - another example of a guy who had a horrible season. Richards & Steward deemed expendable.
These were all guys who were “not good enough” to be re-signed. I can understand Oakman because the Argos are deep there. But he’s here because Ceresna was traded. That trade looks awfully good right now. Gittens has been o/s & Oakman has been a big part of stopping the rush. Looks like Shivers is getting some guys he trusts. Gotta give a lot of credit to Geroy.
I wasn’t thrilled with those signings but…I guess guys end up in bad situations sometimes or in bad head space when things are not working out for them.
Moncrief was easy - he had no one behind him last season. Jones is easy too. Nobody ever talks about the Harris’s “big arm”.
Mayala is the mystery. He has seemed to start out on fire and then - I don’t know what happens. Maybe he’s getting better coaching? Or hanging out with receivers concerned with team success more than personal success?
Huge Props to Geroy!!! I always wondered how much of a GM he was while Jones was here, but I guess we can see now he is the real thing…
