Elks 2024-2025 Off Season

They will need to have name tags at practice!

The Elks DL sure looks promising and about 2 Canadians could start. Elks easily have enough starting Nationals this year, previous years barely enough.

Sorry but wrong. Teams are required to have 21 Nationals on the depth chart and in places last season had 22 or more on the depth chart, never mind the roster.
Matter of fact, in the game I picked the depth chart for there are 19 Canadians on the depth chart and 8 more on the injured list…

This is confusing. Did you run this first through the litmus configuration?

So, each team is REQUIRED to have 21 Nationals on their Roster.

EE had between 18 and 22 on the Depth Chart for games last season, with another 8 or so on the injury report for most of the season. I didn’t count the number on the practice roster or the total number listed on the active roster, but certainly they were above the required number by more than “just squeaking by”.

Despite all the talk about our former coach/co-GM not liking Canadians - we sure had a ton of them around last year.

The Edmonton Elks made Robbie Smith the highest-paid defensive player in the Canadian Football League for the 2025 season.

General manager Ed Hervey paid Smith $270,000 in hard money with a $276,000 maximum.

From the “what the Elks paid their free agents” article on 3down.

I would agree this would be what the offensive depth chart would look like going into training camp.

It will likely not look the same going into the regular season though. On the O-line, backup at LG will be very important as should beard get injured little doubt Korte will slide over to centre.

Hard to tell who will take 3rd downs. Doege has virtually no experience on 3rd downs, while we have a big strong near certainty to pick up yardage in Fajardo.
Of course thats assuming Doege is still around at the end of camp…

Good for him. Nice to see he could move to coaching.

Yea I’m a bit frustrated I would have liked for him to come east to Toronto as a short yardage + special teams guy.

He was a great Upman in the Edmonton Punt Protection and was nearly automatic on 3rd downs.

Oh well :face_with_tears_of_joy: Hope he has a long career training the league’s next generation of short yardage guys!

Vg details, thanks. Elks had tremendous success using Grohovac at FB, they might use him or Green depending on the situation. And you did not include Richards and Steward on the O Line?

You never know. Prukop seems like the kind of guy who might get frustrated coaching in the middle of the season at practice, after their short yardage quarterback has pooped the bed or maybe has pissed off Team Jumbo, and then just says,
“Ah damnit. Screw it. I’m suiting up for two games to show you how it’s done. Team Jumbo, line up now on the 40.”

I thought about that too, but thing is, when you are good at sneaks - it’s an easy skill to pass on.
All I was ever surprised at was that we never ran fakes off of that play…

I thought he played there when both Green and Plamondon were injured and they needed someone to take on the FB blocking role.

I doubt with a mobile QB like Ford he would be as effective or useful in that role as when we had the Big Pylon. Besides which, Maksymic likes to use the FB to carry the ball at times, especially in short yardage situations.

I certainly look forward to the FB position being more than just a blocking position this season.

I hope he get’s a chance to compete at Guard. He looked good when he started.
