Sure, it’s true that Fair and Blanchard are combo kickers/punters, but they are nowhere near good enough punters to play at a CFL level.
If I had to make a guess, I would say that Campbell Fair will be kicking for the Elks in 2025. Kilam was the guy who drafted him in Calgary and he’s been perfect when given the reigns, 8/8 on FG and 4/4 on PATs during his 2 preseason stints.
The CFL Showcase is happening on Feb 9th and there are a plethora of global punters taking part for the Elks to choose from. I suspect they will probably sign someone who’s handled punting + kickoff duties.
Thanks Boris. We will miss the rouge’s on kickoffs…
…and with that I think all the big salaries are gone almost. MBT, Lewis, Bede,
Coming up in a few weeks, listen to Hervey’s rant on how a bunch of guys he never bothered to call signed elsewhere and he has to hire the dregs of Canadian talent to make up the Canadian numbers required…
Except that NCAA Football has been openly pro football since August 2021 via NIL, and it was under the table all along for decades for which various scandals over the years only scratched the surface, and now NCAA Football is all the more pro football with the landscape still changing the recruiting pipeline
The CFL will be up even more against the UFL in these regards as well, as noted in the associated threads, as this landscape for the young athlete continues to grow on this front of especially compensation and opportunities.
Good stuff. He’s only going to improve as time goes on. Was touted as one of the best Long Snappers seen in a very long time by 3DownNation and performed very well in 2024 considering it was his first year snapping as a pro.
Yea not bad at all. Long Snappers who can contribute on coverage teams are very valuable. Also had one of the highest punt snap accuracy percentages with the highest number of punt snaps graded.
I shot him a message last night and he confirmed he is locked in through 2027!
Julien-Grant -double good. Receiver and returner.
Tyrell Ford - good
Beard -a bit meh. Mind you we did trade a few guys the season he went to Hamilton because we needed to patch some leaks, and moved Korte to centre from RG. So if he goes back to centre, do we move Richards to RT or LG, or does Korte move to LG next to Ivey?
The meh comes from run game performance, Edmonton was counting on run game when he left and really for the most part Hamilton’s run game was not spectacular the last couple years either.
