Elks 2024-2025 Off Season

We can shut down the 2024 season thread and move on.

There is a new Pres, a new GM, next - the new coach…

Looks like Jake Julien is down south working out for the Broncos today;

Would be very cool to see him play in the NFL.

Crap. Good for him though. Don’t know he can kick to a distance like NFL teams want though. I mean we took penalties on purpose to back him up at times so he didn;t kick it through the end zone…

It’s tough to evaluate because he also led the entire CFL in the percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line and the number of punts inside the 10-yard line. I see your concern though because he also led the league in Rouges.

He can use this as an opportunity to get his name out there though, he only ever had 1 workout with New England coming out of college.

From your analysis video, I think Julien can place the ball just fine and just as they like it in the NFL.

For most pro punters,
they can adapt and take something off kicks so as to get that ball inside the 20 or preferably the 10,
with the receiving team often calling for fair catch,
including especially if late in the game with a good lead and they simply want to run down the clock with their offense instead of risking anything with a return.

Alternatively if the kicking team is in a good lead, much of the time the conservative NFL coaches don’t even want to risk a big return, so up really high goes the kick with plenty of time for coverage, often forcing a fair catch, or directionally out of bounds.

All of this is far harder for any punter of course when there is significantly high wind.

Interesting. Likely won’t be announced until he has his whole crew lined up.
Gotta be like walking into wonderland to go from bare bones Calgary to Edmonton - with facilities, equipment and a field house…

Wonder who his OC/DC would be?

Yea won’t be announced until next week at the earliest. Jackson still has his interview tomorrow if Dunk is to be believed;

I too am curious who he would hire as OC/DC. I did find this on twitter;

I always liked Sherritt as a player and was sad he went to Calgary to coach after retiring. Maybe I could break out my Sherritt jersey again.

Same. I liked him for the same reasons most did - because he extended that line of outstanding EE MLB’s, Kepley, Bass, Gass, Pless, Sherritt.

He could help Morgan and Anderson find their way to join them in the HOF.

Even more rumblings making it sound like Kilam is all but announced;

Then what happens to Rick Campbell?

This looks like it’s a great hire already. Very excited about where the Elks are headed.

Also hearing Mysemic is likely going to be the new OC in Edmonton. Pretty sure he’s the one who helped Rourke have a breakout season with BC.

He needs someone who is willing to take Fords strengths and put them in a playbook…

Whoever our QB is we need coaches that will build the offense around him like what Montreal did with AC and Calgary did with BLM.

Staying as committed to the run game as we have been the last few years would make me happy.
If there is one thing Winnipeg has showed us - a balanced running and passing game is vital to winning in the regular season and the post season.

For sure. When you have your Mowing Crew roaring down the field to the tune of an average of 5 yards per play, and the defence can’t stop you, well by all means keep on mowing down the defence!

Then of course you also set up the surprise pass to the outside for a big play, with optional jail break blocking, once they all try to gang up on the line.
