Oh well, with much of the roster probably sorted out with a small few of those playing who are playing for their future tonight mostly for defence and for special teams, I was hoping that at long last that we would see the preseason debut of Sean “Spitshine” Mahoney or Lawrence “Beef Broth” Bates at quarterback, but now maybe they’ll have to try for a practice roster somewhere.
I’m going to be paying attention to FB Ben Hladik (#35) tonight. Expect to see him get some reps in at long snapper in the second half.
I don’t see McKnight on the chart. Does anyone know if he got cut?
He was a student at my school.
Oh well, not good, he’s not on the current roster either:
Now maybe he’s looking for a chance with another team’s practice squad?
Oh well. Thanks for researching for me.
Very probable. I was really hopeful for him last season but yet again injury issues kept him on the sidelines most of the season.
Yup we should see final cuts here soon.
Kind of surprised to see Plamondon released and Hladik on the Practice roster but so it is.
Outside that, no big surprises.
It might just me but I liked Jones leaving half the practice roster open so he could bring guys who were cut from other teams to give them a workout right after camp.
Hladik is only 24, plus he’s the backup long snapper. They better not wait long to get him on the team, or he can be snatched away.
Instead they went with 32-year old Tanner Green, who appears to be a fill-in to block occasionally and to play special teams.
The offence is generally a predictable storm .
248 net yards is not going to win hardly any games.
6.6 yards per pass attempt is not winning football.
The BC defence was not even very good!
The crew by contrast executed in marvellous fashion on our first sail of the season.
Even so, it’s a long season, and as first mate I remind them, “much to do lads, much to do.”
We won on our performance, with Captain Timbers ordering another round of double rations of rum coming next week, but the Elks really pooped the bed damnit.
It’s now time to shuffle up the roster and deal in the bye week.
It was a game in nice weather, the game video will show what each player has or not, with small mistakes that can be corrected but at this point a big mistake in a real game, I don’t think so.
In the odd scheduling, it’s two Thursday nights coming up after the Week 2 bye followed by two Sunday evenings at home. Then it’s another bye in July.
Don’t waste time, use this time like an extended preseason between games, so shuffle up and deal.
The more things change the more they remain the same, the defense can’t stop the pass and can’t stop the run, 450 yds allowed. Not near good enough and Montreal is next.
Here I thought they used game 1 as extended preseason…
That was not their intent, but you are correct they sure did.
So here we are in the extended preseason de facto, so get on with a sorely needed training camp now after the cuts, cut a few more and promote or sign up a few and get them up to speed.
It sure seemed like it. They really must win the home opener against Montreal. I know many think we won’t really know what the team is like until we’ve played 3 or 4 games, but being that we’ve been through this for too many years, it’s tough to have confidence. I know receivers are not the only problem, but I’ve never been happy that nearly our entire receiving corps from last season were let go. I know other areas of the team were of higher priority, but I still feel we are missing Geno or someone like him on our team. There were so many dropped passes and wrong routes. It just seems there are a lot of areas of the team that need to be able to come together in a hurry. Some of the fans are losing patience with this.
There was one mope who was screaming all the time here and beyond that somehow magically we were going to just run all over other teams for our core offence. Look how that worked out with a weak passing game.
Well sure a heavy running game does work in some games when you already have gotten their defence on the ropes, especially when they are playing from way behind, but a rushing offense can’t be the dominant offensive plan for success over an entire season let alone to make it far in the playoffs.
A healthy passing offence of course opens things up a whole lot for a very healthy running offence.
Otherwise at any level of football above average high school, a defence only has to gang up more at the line.
I’d be one of them, how many games are we gonna sit through this year before these guys can get it together? I’m getting real sick of this.
Looks like Noah Curtis is done for the year with a torn ACL. He was really coming into his own last year & will be missed.
We met him at the EE fan day after he suffered the injury in the mock game. At that point he was optimistic. Such a nice fellow. I do feel for him. Such a big loss for the team.
