Edmonton vs Ottawa 103rd Grey Cup

A competitive team in Ottawa has been sorely missed for decades now. Hopefully their resurgence (and Hamilton's with THF) can add momentum for the whole East division. We really need to see more good East division rivalry (i.e., Winnipeg doesn't cut it) match-ups in the playoffs. Can't wait to see how the Ti-cats get prepped to face the Red-blacks next year.

Dear Mr. Gabriel: This goes back a long way, but sweet revenge is coming your way for the cheap “simultaneous pass interference” call very late in the 1981 Grey Cup against the Eskies who stole the Grey Cup from you! I’m sure we will be seeing those video clips often this week!

:cowboy:

Eskimos will win --- West is better. Just hope Ottawa keeps it competitive. They are indeed the feel good story and great for the CFL. Henry proved them all wrong. Well done old Henry. Could run for mayor of Ottawa.

you are lame Taylorfield

send me an immature private message and then coward away and disable your private messaging.

I will only be happy if the Eskimos Lose.

it is possible.

The refs weren’t flag-happy and exciting games ensued. Lesson learned for next year, hopefully ; let the players decide the outcomes and the pace is more enjoyable. Don’t call it unless you absolutely have to.

Maybe the players played a tight, disciplined, clean style that didn’t require the flags that so many games earlier did. In other words, don’t give the officials anything to call…and they won’t call it.

sorry I disagree. Yesterday’s Western Final was ridiculous.

the referees were horrible through out.

well of course you do. You wanted Edmonton to lose.

Your hate for the Eskimos is blurring your vision of a good game .

There's no way that review debacle over that turnover was an example of good officiating. Took forever, looked ridiculous, and that cannot happen, especially not in a playoff game where one of your top 2 officiating teams is supposedly out there.

As an aside, apparently CSNBayArea (ie San Fran) has sent a reporter up to Winnipeg. They are hosting the Super Bowl and the reporter apparently is going to do a comparison series between the Grey Cup and Super Bowl. If anyone is interested in following his adventures, here's part 1 http://www.csnbayarea.com/article/grey-cup-setting-scene-canadas-super-bowl

Cool. I’m sure Winnipeg will put on a great party, hopefully the different matchup this year will put some spark into the event.

I don’t think the turnover was so much the issue, it was whether or not the official blew the whistle on the play, before or after the turnover. It may have taken a little longer but at least they got the call right.

cflisthebest,

I see you live in Edmonton. Hey do me a favour and invite me to your Grey Cup party at your house or with your Roughrider fans at the bar. I'll even buy some beer. Wouldn't mind celebrating a victory with my provincial neighbours......vbg.

;-)

Both Calgary and Edmonton put up more offense than Ottawa. What are you using to judge Ottawa as a better offense than the Esks and Stamps?

Not sure if you watch the NFL at all along with the CFL but the refs in an NFL game on Monday Night Football blew an inadvertent whistle that cost the Patriots a TD and they took over 5 minutes to figure it out. They are paid 6 times more than the average CFL ref. So let’s calm down. Do I think CFL officiating needs to improve? Yes. But I was at the stadium and the Eskimo defense kept the crowd entertained and the crowd was nuts throughout to keep anyone who bought a ticket very entertained. The swagger of the Eskimos was infectious. But I am sidetracking haha

I dont remember Hamilton doing that to Edmontons defense in the East final… Are you delusional? The Esks have the best defense by a country mile. Pay attention son.

I don’t think the West Final was “ridiculous”. I only have reservations for a few penalties. The “facemask” by Shavers on his return (bogus). The catch by the Stamps receiver who was “pushed out” by Watkins. (the stamps receiver had no possible way of landing in bounds and Watkins was going for the ball, the rule sucks). And the PI on the Stamps DB on the screen pass in the first or second quarter. That one was iffy but I understood after watching the replay. Then there was the garbage which was the fumble that was blown dead, recovered by Lacey and returned for TD which was called back. Not that it mattered, Walker burnt whatever sorry sack corner that was covering him for a 57 yard TD the next play… Can’t stop greatness

Merged my thread discussion in with this thread since it was started before I posted. However to be honest on what was said in a PM I sent to cflisthebest is as follows; WOW! cflisthebest is a little upset that I overlooked/and or missed a Grey Cup thread that was started by you well before the West final was over. What was said after that (thus is irrelevant) was in response to the Quote "next time look first before you post". On that note, I now understand I could have worded my PM to cflisthebest a little differently. It goes both ways (on the wording by you cflisthebest) as I too feel not getting the benefit of the doubt on my honest mistake of starting my Grey Cup thread after the West final was over. At the end the day I hope all is good and I offer you cflisthebest my phone number (via PM) and we can talk football. Putting a block on return messages is cowardly I admit, but on the other hand at least the sourness on responses didn't go any further.

Cheers taylorfield.
