Edmonton Elks Sale thread

Like I stated earlier, the new tailgate section and the patio off the Jackie Parker room are real positives, my buddy and I even thought about getting a tailgate stall for next year, too bad they didn’t have this 25 years ago!

Or even ten years ago. Pro sports is a cycle and I have to admit that I seen improvements in the Elks. The Hamilton game was the first one all year that they did not show up. Really hoping that Tre Ford can flip the script and give the new owners something to be excited about.

The City of Edmonton has to take responsibility for some of the problems with the product, shut down parking around the stadium, wouldn’t allow tailgating just to name a couple of things.

Place your bets, who’s it gonna be? OEG Inc/Daryl Katz, Larry Thompson, Bill Comrie (and family) or name your own.

Hopefully we will find out in the coming weeks

Be a hero and throw a legitimate name out here before they make the announcement

The only clue is he is a STH

From yesterday

So 9 days…or so… maybe.

Anyone finding it strange that with a sale announcement so close no names are leaking.

With the last Als sale Palideau’s name was out there a week before the announcement… Then again with the Lions, Doman’s name didn’t come out until hours before that presser

That’s because there is no legitimate media anymore.

Two cases in point: Doman had been after Braley to buy the Lions for years. The media was clueless, had no inkling.

Secondly, after Ambrosie announced a potential owner for Halifax, there was no reporting. Then a name was leaked by a Lions commentator. Did anyone aside from him try to confirm the name? Did anyone try to find out whether that story was true or bullshit. Nope

To me, finding out if Rob Steele was a legit possible owner or not was a huge story. Don’t put that on Ambrosie, put it on a useless media that couldn’t be bothered to find out if he was BSing or not.

3Downnation does some good work, they could have checked, Naylor could have checked but he’s too close to the situation being at TSN so he’s likely not going to rock the boat on a story like that.

There’s no reason that story (or even non story) shouldn’t have been reported.

I don’t think it was any big secret. It has been reported that they would likely announce the new owner around mid August and that the new owner had been consulted on some team decisions ie firing Jones

Katz is my guess, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Seeing as there were reports about them looking for a Commonwealth solution with the prov govt, they would seem to be the logical choice. Realistically speaking, if there were over 20 entities in the hunt and then narrowed down to six contenders one would hope they have a few sheckels in the mattress.

We didn’t do too bad with the last two owners, I hope it continues.

All situations like this need a visionary, someone who will outlast naysayers and get things done. Who would have thought Winnipeg and Sask could get such great new stadiums. Even if there is no present appetite in Edmonton, a new stadium can be done. Commonwealth can’t continue to be economically viable in it’s present state now matter how well maintained it is. They have to decide if throwing 200 million at an oversized facility is a good decision, or is it better to build smaller and new.

If Mr K, who will partner up?? His allies are Wayne G, other star athletes??

Wasn’t Gretzky already involved as a minority owner with the Argos 35 years ago?, I can’t see that happening again now.

Why does he or OEG need a partner?

Comrie has been a long time season ticket holder and always wanted to own the Eskimos but that was 20+ years ago

Conroe?

Comrie, Bill. Stupid autocorrect

Seeing rumours of Larry Thompson again and that the sale of his company last year was for $800 million.

Another random name that has come up is Greg Abel
Edmonton-born Greg Abel picked as Warren Buffett’s successor as Berkshire Hathaway CEO

Trent Brown is a a former CFL Allstar and Grey Cup Champion. Today he is the owner and Managing Partner of James H Brown and Associates, Alberta’s top personal injury boutique.

These names have been speculated (without substantiation). I am not just posting names of random rich Edmonton guys (although that might turn out to be the case)

Apparently there are also still members of the Bowlen family in Alberta (again idle speculation)

I know Curtis - he covers local golf so he would be at all the provincial tournaments, great guy. He’s so connected it’s not funny.

Neilson is just a talking head…

So is Naylor, but that doesn’t mean people don’t tell them things
