Edmonton @ Calgary Game Day Thread - LDC Monday September 2

On a gorgeous 32 degree (its a dry heat…) Monday afternoon the 3-8 Elks visit the 4-6 Calgary Stampeders.

Since the original “Battle of Alberta” in 1959 Calgary holds a 28-26-1 record.

Looking forward to yet another great Labour Day Weekend classic from the Alberta teams.

Excited to see how Faithful does kicking field goals :eyes: I was calling for Bede to be replaced by him in my article this week so I’m hoping to be proven right lol

Give his mother Marianne a call to get the inside scoop. But seriously, Faithful wasn’t very good previously but obviously Bede has stunk as well. So much for the Elks solving their kicking woes from last year. Advantage Calgary here.

Last three years - Castillo sucked too. He was nearly as bad as Bede when he was here.

As long as they don’t ask him to kick long field goals he’s OK. I face the fact that in his full season - there was one game where he was the difference.

Still - hard not to cheer for the guy. Takes a lot of guts to step out of whats comfortable and try something new like that.

He hasn’t ever sucked in Winnipeg. We discovered him and are happy to have him back on his third tour of duty. We also discovered Paredes and Liam and Liegghio and are happy they aren’t here.

Who exactly are these Elks? We’ll find out soon…

They will miss Bede if they want to kick it deep. Dean’s distance on kickoff is 55-60 yards.

Who are the Stamps? This is as much of a must win as any game this season…because they meet Edmonton twice more…

Yep agreed. I wonder if they’ll let Julien kickoff. He has a pretty big leg + could probably get it 60+ yards downfield.

He does have big leg as a punter. Would be a good solution provided he can kick off.

But the Stamps picked up Worthy this week so hopefully that shorter kick leads to better coverage…

Yes. I saw that. As a special teams guy, I like the sky kicks to avoid the big return. I love this game. The Edmonton-Calgary labor day game was the first CFL game that I ever watched back in 1979.

Do the Dinos play at McMahon Stadium? Interesting the uni of calgary is in the endzone instead of the stamps

Yes. They do.

I miss the all red end zones that said Calgary Stampeders. We thought that was so cool back in 1979:)

So. The Elks counter with the all white look to Calgary’s all black. Very nice contrast! My fashion comment for the week.

Ugh I hate the yellow they use for the Elks in the score bug. Same yellow as a penalty flag. Should switch it to green

Calgary should be wearing the black jersey more often.

We have an awful lot of black in the CFL already. I do like the design of the uniform much better as opposed to the barber pole stripes.

Don’t like the white white…white and gold much better…
