Edmonton At BC Lions Game Thread Saturday June 07, 2025

lol it’s only the first game guys. i thought the elks looked better than they have in years and i think Kilam will turn things around there.

I think it’s going to be a very competitive league this year, no one is going to run away with it in either division I would say and I predict that all teams will have minimum 4 wins under their belt come season end. We’ll see. Of course injuries are a huge factor.

I too was hoping for a win or at least a much better start than this. Not a lot seemed to go well. I wonder if our new OC is going to expect Tre Ford to keep dropping back into the pocket? I hope this is not going to be a mismatch between Ford and Maksymic. I don’t know as this play calling was suited to Tre Ford in this game. It looks like Tre needed more option plays. They have made him their starter and now need to work with Tre’s strengths. We don’t need another year of Tre not being able to be Tre Ford. Why can’t we go with the parts that did work well last season? It seems a lot of the team are struggling to learn Maksymics’s new system. I don’t want to panic, but I am.

I’m not totally convinced that Ford is a starter, but I could be way wrong. Time will tell

GridironGirl - I completely agree with your thoughts, and appreciate your optimism! As I stated in my previous reply, it’s way too early for season predictions. However, my little ‘rant’ was simply me ‘venting’ frustration - - because every time my ‘hopes’ get elevated - Edmonton finds a way to bring them ‘crashing down’ to reality. I’m honestly hoping things will be vastly different this year under Kilam - and yet it ‘feels’ like this franchise is stuck in a cycle of mediocrity.

I’m with you. That school yard ball is exciting but it can’t be all you have.

I really think the Elk are in trouble with a QB that runs first then looks to pass.
The Lions have QB who can pass but is looking to run if need be.
We saw the results in this game. BC by far a better team with the type of QB they have. Over what the Elk are hoping to cultivate with Tre.
Tre or the type of QB he is, is simply not the answer to success for the Elk or for any team.

Brutal start to the season for Edmonton Kicker Vincent Blanchard. Unfortunate, too, as I don’t think he has a very long leash. I think maybe he gets 1 more game, but you can’t be going 1/4 across all your kicking attempts as a pro.

I think we’ll see the return of Campbell Fair.

Meh, cut him now and let’s move on.
Next man up is you, Campbell Fair.

The Lion’s attendance was nearly 53,000, so the Lions winning was deserved for the fans. A. Doman showed the rest of the teams how to promote the game. The Elks has huge attendance with T. Swift promotion. The evidence is clear. You don’t need a MBA in Marketing, Sales to improve.

You will have to contact the CFL office tomorrow. They run Gamezone. The moderators and this forum have nothing to do with Gamezone and can’t fix it or change it.

I don’t think bringing back Campbell Fair is the answer either. I’m not sure why our team seems to have these constant struggles to find a reliable kicker. Other teams seem to be able to find kickers.

No doubt, but Fair is next man up so too late now, but keep the search going, much to your point!

Let’s not forget a receiver who goes offside twice and drops 2 balls right in his hands.

87 yards rushing isn’t going to worry teams either. Not when Calgary put up more than twice that. The run game we tried was pretty pedestrian though too.

And no play action, no fakes. Kind of looked like High School football where you try to keep it simple, but you do that so you get it right.

I also saw Beard still has the high snap problem. Two times the athleticism of Ford saved us from losing a lot of yards.

Then there’s Rugamba, not hard to see why BC released him. Not a single tackle even though they threw the ball at his man all night. Terrifyingly bad. We were better last year with Grey and Bynum over there. Far far better.

BUT teams seemed better. Two missed field goal returns for 46 yards was far better than we have done for a long time. And a 20 yard average return on kickoffs.

Somehow - not surprising though. I don’t think Hervey has ever been GM of a team where the QB wasn’t running for his life and that had no run game.
