So we got the matchup we wanted. This game scares me a bit. Hopefully the 50000 + crowd noise helps and knocks the Argo's on there butt.

Je ne crois pas que les Alouettes vont prendre les Argonauts à la légère. Si ce n'avait pas été d'une remontée de fin de partie, ils aurait très bien pu n'en avoir gagné qu'une contre eux cette année.

Parmi les constatations qu'on a pu tirer de la partie d'hier, voici ce qu'on peut voir venir pour les Alouettes.

  1. Il est possible de limiter les dégâts que peut causer Chad Owens en ne lui bottant pas le ballon.
  2. La ligne offensive des Argonauts protège bien Lemon.
  3. Les demis défensifs des Argonauts ont relevé leur niveau de jeu et ont bien couvert les receveurs des Timinous, qui ne
    sont pourtant pas les derniers venus (Stala, Bauman, Mann, McDaniel, et même le Turd).
  4. Les Argonauts vont courir beaucoup, que ce soit avec Boyd ou Wright.
  5. Watt va être une cible de prédilection pour Lemon. C'est avec lui qu'il vise le gros jeu.
  6. Les Argonauts vont blitzer Calvillo à tour de bras, comme il l'ont fait sur Glenn, histoire de le presser dans ses passes.

Vos stratégies pour contrer ça?

Good question.
My strategy would look like this:

  1. Our two fastest players are Chip Cox and Andrew Hawkins. Both are great on coverage teams. Both are good tacklers. Assume Owens will break the first couple tackles and head for a sideline. Keep both Hawkins and Cox back a bit...waiting for Owens to make his decision. Then sick the dogs on him.
  2. Stewart and Bowman will need to step up....that's all there is to it. The Als can't afford to blitz excessively. They will get burnt.
  3. Our receivers can take any backs in the league. If Calvillo doesn't freeze and get all "mousey" about going downfield, receivers will be open.
  4. The Alouettes run defence is their strength. Eric Wilson and Shea Emry have done great work against the run.
    Nothing is certain...and if the Alouettes start taking some 2 and outs on offence...holes might start opening up late in the game.
  5. Same answer as 2). We get pressure on Lemon and our secondary will do fine. We don't and kiss our assets goodbye.
  6. Calvillo has trouble with the blitz. Frankly, although it's a bit novel, I like the idea of a 2 quarterback set.
    Realistically it won't happen. If the Als had a decent screen pass in their arsenal I'd say use that. But defences usually blitz Calvillo while holding a lineman/linebacker or two back to prevent just that. Mostly this is due to a minimal fear that Calvillo can escape any kind of pressure...and so their blitz package requires less bodies than usual. Unfortunately, other than a quick release pass...usually resulting in a short gain as the receiver is picked up by those same linemen/linebackers...I doubt the Als have much of an answer for the blitz at the moment.

Une des rares stratégies anti-blitz qui a fonctionné cette année a été la "shovell" à Cobourne, l'autre ayant été la passe voilée à Carter, qui gagne généralement plus de terrain que Cobourne sur ce genre de jeu. Mais si les Alouettes tentent le long jeu de temps à autre en début de partie, ils vont peut-être forcer les Argonauts à couvrir un peu plus large.

There is no way the Argo's can win this game if Boyd is held in check, and they don't kick to Owens.
UNLESS the Als shoot themselves in the foot like Hamilton did through their own constant errors.
