Dyakowski, Canada's Smartest Person

Who woulda thunk it!

Who says football players aren’t smart? This Ticat’s a finalist on Canada’s Smartest Person

Peter Dyakowski knows exactly how it’s going to go down.

“As soon as I make my first screw-up on the field and we’re watching it in the film room,? laughs the 6-foot-5, sixth-year guard for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, “I’ll be hearing from everybody just exactly how smart I am.?

Actually, he’s smart enough to be one of the four finalists on CBC-TV’s Canada’s Smartest Person, which airs next Sunday night.

The self-effacing Dyakowski likes to make fun of his participation in the show — “It’s Canada’s smartest person, so I don’t know how I got in there? — but he’s well-known in Ticat circles for his curiosity and wit.

The CBC release says Dyakowski has a Mensa level IQ, although this show strives to demonstrate there are many areas of intelligence that cannot be defined by IQ scores

Just set my PVR!

O-linemen are generally considered to be the smartest players on a football team

Or at least, that's what I used to tell the boys back in high school

After practice, Peter used to[?] challenge some of the other O-linemen to 40 yard sprints.

Early last year he wasn't challenging them to sprint after practice. I yelled out to him

on the field several times for 2 or 2 weeks asking him when the sprints would start.

He yelled back ...oh, we are doing them right here every day, you missed them,

you're welcome to come out and watch them, we do them at 6:30 every morning.

I know that I don't have to have a Mensa I.Q. to figure out he was pulling my leg.

Oh, by the way congratulations Peter for being chosen for this competition and

for having the guts to face all the flack you are going to get from your "friends."

Found this tidbit on an LSU sports forum and thought people might get a kick out of it here:

Isn't Pete a member of Mensa?
He used to always come to class in his work out attire and no notebook or writing utensils.
That wasn't his workout attire, that was his wardrobe.

His first 3/4 years at LSU, his entire wardrobe consisted of purple LSU shorts, and his MET-RX shite.

Good for Peter, super stuff. Excellent info guys on Peter, didn't know that.

Check out Pete's "Meet the Participants" video:

And his Shout Out to Mathletes:

I almost peed myself.

Peter is killin' it right now, has won the first two challenges.

Pete is Canada' s Smartest Person!

Congrats Pete.

The man is certainly multi-talented. :rockin:

Dyakowski for OC, DC, HC and GM!

you forgot Commish.

Congratulations, Peter! What an awesome performance!

Nice to see Peter win.
It would have been a shame for him to lose in the second part knowing how much of a lead he had going into it.

Not terribly nimble on the balance beam but shone everywhere else.

Well done!

In Canada we put education first not sports. GOOD FOR HIM.

Pete will be on CHML in a few minutes, after the 11:30 news. Should be entertaining.

edit: Make that 11:45

On TSN radio:

I had no idea about this show, but it was on the TV in the establishment that I was at last night and I didn't realize eho he was until he mentioned Grey CUp Tiger-Cats 2012 in one of his speeches. I was like wait a minute - THAT'S DYAKOWSKI!

And not only that, but emerged as one of my favorite players last season. I felt that he really rose up to be one of the finest guards in the league.

Congratz, Peter. Good on ya.

Here is the whole episode if anyone missed it,

Congrats Peter!

Dyakowski will be on shortly with Bob McCown on Prime Time Sports on the FAN590
