This is not rumor, I can’t say how I know this, only that it is true! time will tell! I’d love to see Weston back here!
Same way every other “Trestman is looking at …” rumor is true.
well this is a couple days old and who knows how reliable but never-the-less...he's rated at #1 to go according to their opinion. Weird tho, the other 4 guys have some sort of write up as to why they may or may not make it and Dressler has none.
This is Dressler’s write up
“The CFL star drew some interest when he signed with the Chiefs in February, but his story could be over before it starts. Dressler’s chances of making the team took a big hit when the Kansas City drafted De’Anthony Thomas. The emergence of undrafted free agent Albert Wilson has made it even worse. Both players have similar skill sets to Dressler’s, and both have wowed Andy Reid.”
I would think if another team in the NFL was interested it would have to be a pretty sure thing that he would make the team one way or another otherwise it would be a pretty big risk for him to take another shot this year and end up with no team. He is 99.999999% guaranteed a job in CFL all right make that 100% if he wanted to come back here . My point is a bird in the hand....
if someone offered you 180k...but you knew that was an offer that wasn't going anywhere, and another person offered you a minimum of 500K but only a 20% chance of making it...what would you do? You would look at the talent level ahead of you and decide if you felt you were noticeably better than them or not...when Dressler signed with Kansas, he was...now he is maybe marginally better, but older so they don't get as much out of him. It makes sense he won't be there. But if there is another team that looked remotely like Kansas did 8 months ago and they offer him the shot, he would be a fool not to take a crack at it...because the 18 will be there later, and Dressler has not been making peanuts the passed 3 years so he should be fine financially. Even if he sits on a practice roster for the season awaiting a crack he will get 90k or whatever...so it is not exactly crippling.
I understand what your saying but does Dressler want to sit on the sidelines or actually play ball? He always seemed one to want to be in the game and the go to guy. Yes the potential of earning far more in the NFL is appealing but are the odds of getting that big pay day better then the sure thing by coming back to the CFL? No he wouldn't make 500k with the Riders but I don't think 150k is out of the question plus there's the endorsements etc that could pad the pocket book. While he may not be suffering financially at the same time missing a season is one less you have to make income. It's not like your going to play until your 65 and collect a pension. There is only a finite time to make hay while the sun shines so do you just ignore that and play the waiting game to see if you catch on with some NFL team or do you go for the sure thing and take the money and run.
While Dressler returning would be a huge boost for the Riders and I would welcome him back with open arms obviously, if it happens a part of me will feel a bit disappointed because for all he’s done for me as a fan, the least I can do is hope for him that he sticks in the NFL and takes his career as far as it can go. I really hope he makes it with KC or catches on with any of the other 31 clubs.
It’s all about the dream my friend… All about the dream! If I’m Weston Dressler at 65 and can tell my grand kids I was talented enough to play in both leagues, I would try my best to do so. Weston Dressler is so popular in Saskatchewan, he could retire tomorrow, and find a decent job in Regina, and with endorsements, he could make $150k like nothing…
I for one would love to see him back in a Rider uniform, but only because i’m selfish and want my team to win. However, I hope he makes the NFL, because it would make me happy as person to see a great guy like him live his dream
Oh I understand about the dream but sometimes dreams don't come true. The harsh reality is that if he makes it on an NFL team would he see much playing time or just another number on the roster. Dreams are nice to have and to pursue but reality can sometimes be much harsher. I guess it comes down to does he want to be a small fish in a big pond or a big fish in a small pond? To have just a career in the CFL is nothing to be ashamed of and I think he could achieve more accomplishments Here. I guess thats up to him though what he wants.
all it takes is an injury and you can become a star. Foot in the door required though.

Agreed. I love that little guy and everything he has done for this team. Wish nothing but the best for him, and if that doesn’t include the NFL, I wholeheartedly believe that the best for him would be to come here. He can come back and win grey cups and go down as one of the greatest Rider/CFL receivers ever.
so...did the redblacks release Paris Jackson to make more room?
Yup I read that too so now here is the 1,000,000 question if Dressler is cut what is it going to take to sign him? How high does anyone think Ottawa will go? Bonus points for guessing the team and be within 10,000 dollars.
I will start and say lets not screw around here. Simon when with the Lions reportedly was making 205,000 Buono offered him less then half for diminished role. Riders obviously went higher. The question is how much higher? I say offer Dressler 3 years at 210,000 per. plus incentives. A lot of cabbage but either you crap or get off the pot.
I have no idea what he was making last year as its always a secret to what the players salaries are. I'm probably low so anyone that has more knowledge please feel free to correct me as for now my guess is 210,000 plus incentives and Riders get him.

That would be the educated guess and that’s my point about having so many running backs. It’s time to cut the excess fat and go for the gravy.
well...someone I have talked to who is a bit in the know said it sounds like a tentative deal has been reached and it was under 200. He is not in the thick of negotiation or talks or anything like that, so it is a pretty lose rumor, and I tend te believe he heard the offer amount, not a tentative deal.. I personally find a deal being struck that fast difficult to believe...I don't think Dressler is technically available yet, and I would imagine he would give it 72 hours to see it there are takers...he has to clear waivers anyways, and technically isn't allowed to negotiate right now. Dressler is in the media enough that there will be NFL teams that at least take a glance in his direction.
I agree I cant see any "offer" being made as that would be a no no. Sure the Chiefs may have "let it slip" to someone associated with the Riders as a courtesy for letting Dressler out of his contract early to sign with the Chiefs. Common courtesy so to speak. Other then that until he officially cut nothing can be done. There is little doubt though in my mind that the Riders have been in contact with Dresslers agent hypothetically and in very vague language about what it would take to have him back. Nudge nudge ,wink wink, know what I mean, know what I mean? The Riders do have to be very careful though how this information comes out as no doubt Ottawa will be crying foul if he does sign with the Riders the second he is available to do so.
Well I do hope if he does become available that he would sign here. Close to home base in ND and essentially one of the Rider Greats despite a short career here... I can't see him signing with an expansion team, when there is good opportunity here to win additional Championships.
I would also speculate that if he was cut by the Chiefs, and didn't sign with the Riders, that half of the province would revolt! I would feel sorry for Taman's front lawn if he couldn't make it happen! Lol
