Draft Thread

WOO! Steeletown! (no disrespect to the late Randy Steele)

Another update:

Trade With Winnipeg The Tiger-Cats have acquired the 22nd overall pick from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for the 28th overall pick and a negotiation list player.

I don't quite understand the Fournier pick either, but I understand we'll hear what Marcel and Obie will have to say later on.

Here is a video on Fournier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y35Rh9JauI

And we got DT Eddie Steele:

Steele, Eddie 6'0" 273 Manitoba
Had an outstanding year despite nagging knee injury; Strongest DL in class

we got Eddie Steele at #22. Un Fail

Very glad we got Steele and shocked he was still available. The main point I have heard about him from a few places is that he is very strong and aggressive. Perfect for DT. At 273 he is the perfect size for DT in the CFL.

Gave EDM #12 in exchange for #19 (Took Laval FB Fournier) & #27 (yet to come).

Another RB that will either not make the team or will never see the ball if he does! It really was a wasted pick, better check what they're smoken in the war room. Not to empressive to date!

Update from Drew's blog:

2:27: He's a future pick - he'll be back at Duke next season - but it sure looks like the Cats are loading up at Canadian corner. I can see him backing up Ryan Hinds on the wide side as early as 2011.

2:25: The Cats have taken Chris Rwabukamba at DB from Duke. He's 5'10" 175 pounds. The Forde file: "Started eight of twelve games for the Blue Devils in '09; Has a knack for big plays."

Yes the boring CFL draft!!!
Let's draft a bunch of big O linemen. I think the last outstanding player to come out of the draft was Lumsden.

As long as there are Canadian quotas in the CFL we will continue to see O linemen, the usual backup linebackers, the odd safety and the backup Canadian receiver. A Canadian RB will be put on the roster and may get the occasional start but lets face it the US trained RBs are the exciting players, our Canadians are there to take up roster space. It's sad really.

I wonder if the CFL realizes that Canadian football players would have a better chance of making it in the CFL if there were no Canadian quotas............they could compete one on one!

Toronto is having one of the best drafts I have seen, aside from that questionable kicker selection 11th overall, they are having the best draft by far.

I agree. Reinders at 26, Turner at 30. Very good value picks. Not to mention Greenwood and Eppele are not bad either.

Thank you OttawaCat, the CFL draft tracker must have been wrong because it had listed Edmonton for the 27th pick via Hamilton and it obviously should have been the other way around, thanks again!

They got Turner and Reinders this late, they must be pleased with how it went for them

Anyway, here are videos on Steele:

And Rwabukamba:

Anyway, maybe picking Fournier was something they were planning on doing after the Pavlovic release.

With the 36th overall pick, the Ticats select St. Mary's K/P Justin Palardy.

According to what's here: http://www.ticats.ca/blogs/ticatsconfidential

Palardy, Justin
Saint Mary's
Punting needs work but clutch kicker is the all-time leading scorer in AUS history

So it's interesting that they pick him and not Bodnar.

And here are our Great First Round Pics in Past Years:
Besides a couple of O linemen I wonder where they are now????

Rottier, Simeon
Brown, Darcy
Hinds, Ryan
McCuaig, Scott
Allard-Cameus, Guillaume
Wladichuk, Raymond
Doneff, Cassidy
McGrath, Bill

Giguere, Samuel
Giffin, Michael
Lavigne Masse, Laurent
Goncalves, Michael
Kania, Adam
Rempel, Jordan
Ince, Eric
Pavlovic, Robert
Getzlaf, Chris
Kordic, Nick

Reid, Jermaine
Dyakowski, Peter
Mayne, Shawn
Sutherland, Chris
Roberts, Michael

A better kicker than punter. '09 Avg. punt for St. Mary's 37 yds.

37 yd average yepppppppppps!

Boreham has been doing that for going on 6 years and is still employed.

His coach was on the TSN panel and said they focused on directional kicking and that brought down his average. Directional kicking is a valuable skill to have.

So I think it's quite possible that we'll sign a free agent NI punter. Here is the video on Palardy anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZn5EuH0 ... r_embedded

And here is a link to an article on Palardy saying that a few teams, including the Ticats had a look at him: http://www.metronews.ca/halifax/sports/ ... -cfl-clubs

I understand that there will be interviews with Marcel and Obie and even some of the draftees posted to Ticats TV soon. I'd like to know what they will have to say.

And here's a picture of Mark Cohon taken earlier today: http://twitpic.com/1kdrib

And Forde said his "punting needs work" here: http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/feature/?id=22604

It looks like we made out last picks. There hasn't been as much interest in this draft, likely because we did not have as many early picks, and because we don't seem to need to bring in as much talent this time. But hopefully we made some good additions to this team today.

I will take his coaches opinion over Forde's.
