Draft Prospects: Akiem Hicks

Regina Rams Akiem Hicks made a big impression.

He is an Import, his rights are already held by Hamilton. Not eligible for CFL Draft

I saw that article last week too, and I see here that he's moving up the Board as is loaded this season with DTs:

The link is update about every week too.

I suspect Hicks will rise up some more as scouts look at agility, hand size, arm length, and technique on top of the frame, strength, and speed for all the DT prospects.

Note in contrast to last year that the DE position is rather thin this year.

Guys at 300 pounds who can run a 40-yard dash at less than 5 seconds, and as to be determined later have excellent 10-yard splits, automatically get a whole lot of high-dollar attention.

Furthermore there are just not many guys each year who play the line who are a fit 320 pounds or more like Hicks.

He's projected as a Diamond In The Rough as a development prospect for any given NFL team now.

I expect that he'll be drafted on the last day, but we probably won't see him in action but on special teams sets until he develops with training.

I saw Hicks a number of times coaching flag football in the spring here in Regina. I have two boys in it and number will be playing in a couple of years.

Hicks is a monster, and ripped. Biggest athletic guy I've ever seen. Who ever gets him will be very happy. He dominated for the Rams, typically two blockers on him ever play.

Good luck Hicks, we'll miss u on the Rams and someday think about the Riders.

It's impressive that Hicks went in the third round of the NFL draft to the Saints.

He was the 9th true defensive end taken in the draft.

Did a little story on Hicks the other day... maybe you will find interesting. He is a colourful guy, well-travelled, and might just surprise, despite critics! http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/05/02/ ... uggesting/

Interesting story for sure coming to the Univ Regina to play. What I don't get are the recruiting violations. Didn't LSU know that they shouldn't be spending that money on lodging and transportation, I think the article I was reading mentioned? And why HIcks as I'm sure the university did this with other recruits as well? :?

Earl, not sure if you are referncing my article?

Regardless, this stuff is so commonplace in the NCAA. As long as teams and players aren't stupid about it. There was no other avenue for LSU from what I understand bc he wasn't even at the school yet. Therefore the roster spot needed to be taken away. It really seems like not such a big deal.

Is there ANY Canadian born or trained player whose rights AREN"T owned by the Ticats? They really seem to be cleaning up in regards to adding talent in recent times

The Saints signed him, and he'll be competing for the spot as the third DT/backup DT in the rotation in the Saints' 4-3.

awesome to see that he is now signed
