TORONTO (CFL) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of a fan who passed away this morning following an accident during last night's game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
In confirming the incident, Commissioner Tom Wright stated, "This is a difficult and tragic day for all of us across the CFL. We all understand the importance and significance of the fans, who are our greatest supporters.?
WINNIPEG (CP) - A man who fell five metres from the stands during a CFL game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night died in hospital Saturday.
Blue Bombers president Lyle Bauer extended his sympathy to the family. The man was not identified.
"The important thing right now is the individual's family as they deal with their loss," said Bauer. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time."
The man fell over a guard rail from his seat in the north endzone at CanadInns Stadium an hour into the game. Onlookers said the back of his head struck the asphalt below. He didn't move after the fall but appeared to be conscious as he was taken by stretcher to an ambulance.
CFL commissioner Tom Wright also issued a statement: "This is a difficult and tragic day for all of us across the CFL. We all understand the importance and significance of the fans, who are our greatest supporters."
Yea, in the north its a good twenty feet off the ground behind the endzone (to cement). The exits are towards the rail instead of the usual exits (that go towards the inside) so he was probably just going towards the stairs when he got distracted and didn't turn.
This is the time to show respect for a fellow fan and not to speculate on his state. It was a terrible accident that could have been caused by a number of factors. To the family the deepest wishes of sympathy from this community.
I was sitting right in Section K row 5 when it happened. He was running down the stairs it appeared to go to the concessions. Near the end he lost his balance and flew through the railing at the walkway. He went head first about 12 - 20 feet onto concrete. He left the stadium in stable condition with a broken coller bone. He most likely died of some kind of internal bleeding in the head.
No don't take that the wrong way, I was just stating the facts and the possibilities of what the reason could have been. Beleive me I was pretty upset when I read it in the paper the next day.
BlueGoldProud; I am sure you did not want to say it that way. Would you consider editing your post just to remove two words? Thank you and I’m sorry if I might have made you sound indifferent.
I edited it out of respect because I didn't intend on offending anybody, but for the record the part I edited was actually true. That was the part of the story I was not speculating but actually read in the newspaper. I do also realize that maybe that fact should be kept on the down low out of respect (as the CFL has seemed to have done).
