I think it’s great to shine the spotlight on some Asian Canadians who have made big contributions to the game. Asians are probably the most underrepresented group among CFL players. It’d be wise to try grow the connection between the CFL and the Asian community, which is something like 20% of the population.

I’d say they have had some pretty good representation already in the league…

He was a great one, for sure. But he retired in 1960. Not many kids today are going to know about him or feel a connection to the league in 2023 and beyond because Kwong played well before their parents were born.

More recent, yes. But he retired more than 10 years ago now. That’s not going to do much for Asian representation in the eyes of young Asian fans watching today.

But, the league should be putting much effort into highlighitng his past career and his current role as coach to bolster that sense of representation.
